Built in stages - farmhouse in 1795, first addition in 1822, and the Italianate mansion out front in 1846 - Blandwood was the home of North Carolina Governor Morehead who also built one of the first railroads in NC connecting major cities with the coast at (what was to become) Morehead City. Andy gave us a personable and knowledgeable hour-long tour that brought the place alive.
We loved this tour. The young man that was our tour guide was very good and knowledgeable. The history of Greensboro is so rich and between this tour and the Carolina History and Haunts Tour we've learned so much.Their hours are limited and daytime only, but for us it is worth the daytime trip. We will definitely do this tour many times. Can't wait for the Christmas Tour!
Open year round, but especially pretty at Christmas when the staff decorates the home as it probably appeared when the home was first built.
Nice time. pretty gardens, liked learning a little of the history behind this mansion. Beautiful painting and art throughout.
The mansion can be seen by tour only, and although the opening hours are posted, on the day we visited at 11am (opening time), no guides were there. We were asked to wait a few minutes and for someone to ready things inside and we'd be allowed to visit on our own. Luckily, about 15 minutes later, the docent arrived - she was very informative, and we would have missed so much without her guidance. The mansion deserves to become more well-known by tourists and locals alike.
Amazed me that the mansion looks kinda small by looking at from the outside, but it is not that small after all. It has like divisions and 2nd floors.U can see all original clothing, personal accessories, furniture, etcWe got there while some other people was being tour and geeeeeeeez we gotta wait outside, we roasted our butts off, they do not have AC waiting room. We waited like 45 min. We took the train from Cary, NC so did not have other option. The mansion's size and 1 guide would not really being able to hold too many people at the same time. I think u have to call in advance and reserve. We found a coupon in the train, so was really cool. We save some $.I enjoyed being there and being able to see everything!
