Mounds Park is a wonderful place for families, or just for a quiet hike on your own. A lovely forest on the banks of the White River offers hiking trails for every level. Picnic grounds abound with play areas for little people. The pavilion will serve for everything from a family reunion to a wedding reception and there are plenty of shelter houses in case rain tries to dampen your day. Campgrounds, from fully equipped to primitive are available, along with a very nice pool and nature center. Don't forget to walk through the Bronnenburg homestead located on the property. It is a significant piece of Indiana and Madison County heritage.

Local State Park attraction to us. We have visited tree ed many times. Great examples of early Native American mound works with good interpretation center. Good camping and picnicking as well as great swimming pool in summer. Fair hiking trail system.

Great place to launch or land Kayak. Love to put in at Morrow's meadow in Yorktown- It's a beautiful stretch of the river to the state park or for a shorter paddle you can put in at the park and paddle to the 8th street bridge in Anderson. The park has some easy peas trails. I recall field trips here to visit the Indian burial mounds. There is a small nature center and occasionally a pow wow. There is a decent indoor rental facility with a kitchen. Once had a work retreat here on a chilly, rainy day that was cozy by the wood fire.

We are not serious hikers. My family prefers a slow, comfortable nature walk to rock-climbing. Mounds Park is great for us. There are several trails with steps to help along the difficult parts. We have had close encounters with everything from a garter snake to a 10 point buck along these trails. We can pause to watch airplanes at the municipal airport. We can imagine the sights and sounds of the amusement park that stood along the White River almost 100 years ago. Sometimes we just stand in quiet awe of the great mound and the spirits of those who built it hundreds of years ago. The nature center is very nice. We have found their programs for kids educational and very entertaining. They are never too long or boring. Rest rooms are convenient. Our kids always enjoy playing on the playground or climbing a hedge apple tree. The park has some open areas where we go to fly kites. We have caught a few blue gill from the river, but never lots of fish. We have neither camped here nor used the pool. I would not drive more than a few hours to go to this park, but it is an excellent place to stop if you are passing through the area.

Mounds SP has interesting historical significance but not a lot of "bang" as some of the showier state parks possess. That being said, it is a lovely place for an afternoon stroll having the feel of a secluded urban park. The mounds themselves are not that impressive but marvel at the ancient feel of the place. The nature center is worth a look. We did not utilize the campgrounds nor swimming pool on our day trip but they looked nice. The White River runs through the park, there are boat ramps to the river, and you can go "catch-and-release fishing. Several shelters are available for rental. All in all a beautiful spot close to Anderson and a half an hour drive from the northeast corner of Indianapolis.

This is another nice state park that has some nice and easy trails. Longest is about 2 1/2 miles. The elevation different is only about 40 feet, There are some trails that have several steps. Some nice views especially in the fall. Nice visitors center. Nice place to spend a afternoon. Take and picnic and enjoy. Note: During wet times as most places with water and wet lands, , Take bug spray

So much to see and do! Take a hike along the river or find out about the Paleo-Indians who built the mounds. Great place to visit.

The mounds at Mounds State Park are underwhelming; they are not very large and a little hard to see. Still, the history of the mounds and their historic purpose is interesting. There are miles of hiking trails, including several fund hikes near the White River. The trails are not particularly well marked, and I got lost several times, but it was fairly easy to regain my bearings after a while.

If you have seen picks and like them then you will likely be a happy explorer at Mounds state park. Give it a shot if you have the time. It can make for a nice enjoyable start to a day or a nice easy going beginning to your evening if you are there late.

My family goes to this beautiful park for morning walks and to just hang out in the woods, very clean and feel safe while out in the wild, we have never used the camper part so can't speak about that.

This place is a treasure! There’s so much to see and do. Our first visit was a guided night walk at the full moon. It was fabulous. We walked to the less visited circle mound and learned about the native people and their culture. Then the fireflies started rising and it was thrilling, as there are no fireflies where we live. It was like the spirits of the natives rising up from the sacred mounds. There are trails to walk, a pool open in the summer and a nature center to explore. There are many interpretive activities most suitable for children. The old Bronnenberg House is open for tours on selected days. Be sure to find out when. They sometimes have living history events. There’s so much to see and do, why not just camp there and make a week of it.
