Although we have a year-round bald eagle population, winter is definitely the best time to spot them here. Glad you were able to get such a great sighting!

Area is on a large lake. Fairfax is a swimming, boating and picnic area. The lake is usually busy in the summer. Lots of speed boats. A lot of fishing & fishing contests go on there. Fairfax is the largest and best beach to swim. Marina is nearby as is a hotel & restaurant. Well maintained and pretty area.

I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay at Monroe Lake - I hope we'll see you again next year!As a clarification, for others who may read this review, there is no campground at Fairfax SRA. Our campground is actually at Paynetown SRA, on the other side of the lake. Both Fairfax and Paynetown SRAs are a part of Monroe Lake (we have a total of 9 SRAs on the lake!) and managed jointly. The only lodging option located within Fairfax SRA is the Fourwinds Resort and Marina (which is privately owned and operated).

Did not know what to expect, but ended up having hours of fun with the family. Beach was very well kept and clean. lots of room to spread out and ample parking. Average restrooms and changing rooms. We will for sure make this trip to the beach again.

Nice beach and restored hotel await. Lake Monroe is Indiana's largest man-made lake offering boating, swimming, fishing, etc. The state park land offers hiking as does the national forest. Great outdoor fun.
