I Love coming here in the morning to start my day, so much to see, nature is very important to me, and this is a place that fills that void.
We visited the park and had a lot of fun touring the mill. When we were in the mill the people were very knowledgeable about it and even turned it on so we could see how everything worked. Our kids were amazed to see how it worked and to see how things used to be built. There are some great trails for exploring and an awesome mountain bike trail that my two older kids and I went on. The head of the mountain bike trail is located at the Briar Patch Shelter.
My family and I randomly searched for a place to hike within a few hours of our home when we stumbled across this park. The park is well taken care of and you are able to get quite the history lesson at the same time. It was a little muddy when we visited there so some of the trails were a bit too wet to hike. Regardless, it was still a great experience walking along the river and learning about the mill. Kudos to the Elkhart County Parks Department for maintaining this beautiful park so well!
We took a drive to Bonneyville Mill County Park while visiting Middlebury over the 4th of July. The mill is beautiful and in a rustic location. I was a little disappointed that the flower beds weren't blooming yet, at least the dahlias weren't but it was early for dahlias. We had been there before when the flowers were prettier, but all in all, it is a beautiful place to take a picnic lunch. You can buy flour and meal there as well, when the mill is open.
We accidently stumbled on this wonderful little Elkhart County Park while visiting nearby Shipshewana Flea Market. Not hard to find, it is a short drive to the park once you turn off of Hwy SR 120, and head down CR131. Its a park that consists of the oldest continually operating grist Mill in Indiana since being built in the 1830's. A fork of the Little Elkhart River runs through the park and helps to power the Mill, so that grain can still be ground there today. The mill grinds corn, wheat, rye, and buckwheat and a volunteer will happily show you how it is done and tell you the specifics of the Mills history.Close by are over five miles of hiking trails in a natural woody setting. There is also fishing in the Little Elkhart River where you just might catch yourself a small-mouthed Bass or stocked Trout. In the winter the Park offers cross-country skiing as well as 2 sledding hills. Picnic tables can be found also throughout the Park, plus 5 reservable shelters for larger groups. Each shelter has tables, grills, water and restroom accommodations.Operating hours for the Mill are Wednesday through Sunday from May Through October. Hours 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.Park hours vary by season. Call ahead to confirm. or visit www.elkhartcountyparks.org A great little gem hidden away and a trip back into a time when the pace was much slower.
I have been there several times with the family girl scouts others this last fall we took our family pictures there you can learn history on flour grinding as well. There are different parts of the park that you may have to drive to .
This is a very cool & beautiful place!! They grind the grains onsite & you can purchase awesome flour directly from them!!They also have a very, very beautiful display of dahlia's & also a wonderful wild flower garden.Great trails & picnic areas are available!!!
Nice well kept park with trails, fishing, etc. wish the mill was open. We never I could find the play ground. It might not even be there anymore.
This park is so well maintained, and has so many photographic opportunities! We have had our family photos taken there several times, and we love just taking walks and seeing all there is to offer!
Take a walk back in time by visiting this mill in its lovely, peaceful setting. Even though we were the only visitors at the time, the miller voluntarily set the mill in motion for us & told us about it's history & operation. The grounds with flower and herb gardens against the backdrop of the sounds of the running water that powers the mill makes it such a lovely spot. We'd suggest picking up the very informative & complimentary CDs for the Heritage Trail that are offered at the Elkhart Visitor's Center and making Bonneyville Mill one of your stops along the trial.
We have taken family pictures there so many different places to take pictures We did our in the fall so many pretty fall colors therebis a pond a big Red barn a water fall an old mill
We thought we would allocate a few minutes looking at the Grist Mill at Bonneyville. The grounds, the incredible beauty of the flower garden and the stream that powers the mill. The Grist Mill, itself, is operational and demonstrates the engineering brilliance from almost two hundred years ago. And, it's mostly original. Live demo of grinding grain, corn, wheat and rye.Fascinating!Great for kids and adults with curiosity. We purchased fresh ground flour and used it to bake bread. Our few minutes turned into an hour.Time well spent.Give them your support with a little donation.M
We made a nice stop at the Mill while visiting the area. The person at the Mill was very friendly and even turned it on for our group as he explained the process. And the area garden is lovely. Only drawback for me was that indoor allergies kicked in (it is musty in there), and I had to step outside.
The grist mill was the highlight of this park. They still use it to grind corn and wheat to make flour and corn meal. You can purchase these items at the mill. We have already used some of the grits we both there and they were excellent
For those visitors to our area, this is an awesome place for hiking, fishing, picnicking, frolicking in the outside air.
