best quilts in town will make your socks fall off there pretty warm looking and I think they are in a really convenient location.
I loved looking at the beautiful quilts they were showcasing. The ladies were very helpful and friendly
Watching the restoration progress was very interesting. The restored home has quilt exhibits on the 1st and 2nd floors. A history of Marie Webster. Plus changing exhibits throughout the year. If you are a quilt lover or love quilt history this is a must stop for you.
The Quilters' Hall of Fame is located in the restored home of Marie Webster, an early quilt historian (she wrote the first quilt book in 1915) and entrepreneur. Quilts are displayed on the first and second floors of the home and a small gift shop is located downstairs. The displays change quarterly- current exhibit is red and green appliqué quilts from the Indiana State Museum and is lovely. The museum is open from 10 a.m. -3 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. It's easy to get to, just a few blocks from downtown on one of the main streets. As a bonus, there is a diner/ drive- in next door with delicious homemade food- fantastic onion rings!
A loving restored home of featured well known quilter. Walls display various quilts from years past to present by many different quilters. Very interesting if you are into the history and quality of quilting. Stairs take you to the second floor but there is an elevator if needed. Cost is $4 to enter.(seems a little high but think of it as a donation to keep the home open and cared for) The home is run by volunteers as your hostess and historian. There is a gift shop of homemade items to purchase. Takes about 30 min. to view unless you have questions and really enjoy hanging out and conversing with others about quilts. I do not believe there are any quilts for sale, only viewing. Not really intended for small children.
I fell across this delightful place almost by accident - it's on the AAA trip tik attractions list or I'd never have noticed it. This little museum is in an early 1900s house, fully and beautifully restored, once owned by Maria Webster and her husband. There are some beautiful quilts on exhibit, hall of fame members' contributions, and the docent there the day I visited was very knowledgeable. Allow about 45 minutes. There's also a small gift store with quilting books and patterns, and some interesting gifts made by the Quilting Hall of Fame guild members.
