We were searching for the Garfield statues and so we stopped here. There is a display about local lands and their history, as well as a market/gift shop area. The shop has some local items. Statues outside were interesting to look at. Only wish we were there during the spring or summer when the flowers would have been out.
Throughout my years at Ball State, by far my favorite spot to run has been in Minnetrista. It's well-lit at night, the grounds are beautiful, and the trails are ideal for runners. I used the Minnetrista trails to train for a race I ran in Battersea Park in London.Additionally, the farmer's market is also a great way to connect with the community and get to know other like-minded individuals in Muncie. On a nice day, you really should go check this place out. In a town that doesn't have much to offer, Minnetrista is a bright spot!
Minnetrista is a combination museum, art gallery, cultural center and gardens. it is built on the site of one of the Ball Brothers' house. These are the Ball brothers of home canning jat fame. There is an immense amount to see at Minnetrista. i normally start inside to catch the art, history and cultural exhibits. Depending upon your interests and what they are offering this can take 1 to 2 hours. longer if you have kids who want to play. the Indiana film is a bit propaganda and idealized, but it contains a lot of itneresting information and visuals as well.Outside, there are the extensive gardens and the White River. If you like plants and flowers, be prepared to take several hours to properly tour the various gardens. The collection is divided into several smaller gardens, e.g., the rose garden beside the main building. You also get to walk by the remaining Ball Brothers' houses. They are architectural gems from the period when they were built. It is also interesting to see the differences in size and grandeur as the houses are built one after another. There is a nice apple orchard on the property, and apple harvesting activities occur in the fall. I have not attended, but I have walked the orchard. There is also a nice gift shop with local goods available. For those who like museums and gardens, this is a nice gem in Muncie. I compare it favorably with the Indianapolis Museum of Art campus.
Minnetrista has museum space, holds outdoor kid-friendly events (Faerie, Sprites, and Lights; Luminaria; Graden Fair; Farmer's Market; PBS events, etc.). Plus it is a great place to see nature. Walk through the garden and nature areas. You never know what you might find! A great place for the family to visit.
Muncie's Minnetrista Cultural Center hosts a farmer's market on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings. It's part of our weekend routine to stop-in early on Saturday to make selections from the fresh baked goods, seasonal veg and fruits, bedding plants and flowers, and local meats, eggs, and even wine. While some bargains can be found, most items are at about grocery prices, but are of the highest quality. Some vendors offer fresh-made sandwiches and coffee and bake goods are also available so that you do not have to shop on an empty tummy! Admission and parking are free. Red wagons are provided so that you do not have to carry your purchases. It takes 20 to 30 minutes to make the rounds of the vendors and complete our purchases. While many vendors now can process debit and credit cards, cash is always appreciated. Leached pets and children are welcome. Additional details can be found here: http://www.minnetrista.net/events/farmers-market/.
The grounds around Minnetrista are beautiful, and it is interesting to observe the mansions which housed the Ball families.
The Minnestrista is nice to look at but it doesn't offer enough age appropriate events.Considering the location one would think it would offer more activites for people younger than 50.
Muncie has a Farmers Market on Saturday's the local fruits and vegetables you can purchase. Grab your bags and go shopping.
Great displays, informative, well worth the time off the interstate. And you can stop at Ball State and get that special someone a "Ball U" shirt or hat.
Minnetrista is many things, as diverse as the visitors who come for so many reasons, exhibits, music on the lawn, luminaria walk in winter, faeries\sprites\lights in summer, day camps, school break days, a place for weddings, meetings, dinners, shopping, walking, school field trips and just relaxing. There is a fee for visiting exhibits in the homes, but the grounds are open. The expanded orchard shop combined two smaller shops making it more convenient to find unique and local wares. Across the road is a nature area where anyone can explore, maybe follow a school tour down to the wetlands, sit on the bridge and listen to a story. Or sit on the lawn on the Fourth of July and watch the fireworks after listening to a local band perform , including patriotic tunes. Oakhurst is the name of the home where Miss Elisabeth Ball lived her whole life. She believed in faeries, and in July there are two evenings when little girls and boys can dress up as faeries, sprites, elves or other magical creatures, wander through the grounds looking for signs of faerie homes and other special places, dance in a circle to live musicians, make something special at a craft table and watch a performance on stage under a tent. You can even buy faerie wings at the Orchard Shop. In early December the whole area is lit with luminaria along the paths and roadways. There is hot chocolate and horse drawn carriage rides to enjoy as well as many decorated Christmas trees. Definitely a jewel in the middle of town and worth a visit by yourself, with your sweetheart, or wide-eyed children and grandchildren.
There are so many types of activities supported at Minnestrista: obviously, the cultural center, but also the Farmer's Market, Oakhurst Gardens, walking paths, bike paths, gardens, & apple orchard. Arguably the best place in Muncie; certainly a "can't-miss" for visitors.
I enjoy walking around Minnetrista and enjoying the many paths and trails that wind through this beautiful area, in which you can enjoy nature and even catch a glimpse various wildlife from time to time, as well as the beautiful gardens. They also have a Farmer's Market every Wednesday evening and Saturday morning, which is just spectacular!
They used to play some music, but haven't done much for years. The museum is cheesy and the whole thing is like a joke.
We enjoyed a beautiful outside wedding on the gardens at the Minnetrista center. There was plenty of parking and the seating was perfect for the size wedding we attended.
I love this place! They always have new exhibits and interesting community activities going on. I'm so glad the Farmers Market is back! & the new renovated orchard shop is great!
