portage lakefront and riverwalk

I would have given this a 5 but the steel mill right across the ditch detracts from the pleasure of the experience. That being said, the pavilion is straight out of the Jetson's and we enjoy walking our dogs on the trails and out on the break wall (not allowed on what little beach there is). I go out to view storms on Lake Michigan. All in all a great addition to Portage where beach access is otherwise limited and/or private.

Visited yesterday, always something interesting to see. It's really cold now. Hopefully the NPS will renourish the beach, it sorely needs it.

The river walk is actually a walkway out into the lake. It is amazing, especially if the waves are high. You must see it.

We love going out to the riverwalk to take a short stroll. It is slightly difficult to find unless you are familiar with the area

We missed this park and lakefront the last time we went to Indiana Dunes. It is worth getting to if you can spare some time. It is perhaps a bit difficult to locate, even though there are signs up. Driving past some manufacturing plants you wonder if you are in the right place and there it is. A nice walking area and beach access, along with a jetty you can walk out on. There is an unstaffed visitor building with information about the area. If touring the Indiana Dunes be sure to add this to your trip.

We try to get out to the park at least a few times per month. The scenery is great and the views overlooking Lake Michigan can't be beat. A good place to visit year around to see how the park changes through various seasons.
