Great little hidden art gallery full of local work. Definitely worth the stop! I love the enthusiasm of the volunteers/artists!
The Red Lantern Gallery started as a community project in 2010. The first show was dedicated to the mural painters who painted the murals located in the main dining area of the Red Wagon Restaurant. The Red Lantern Gallery has continued to grow and chef Brent's menu is growing too!!!! The Red Wagon is great family dining experience and the art in the gallery will appeal to all ages. The gallery has four seasonal shows a year and the Red Wagon will be hosting the Red Lantern Gallery's first annual Summer Stroll Arts Fest on June 7th from 11:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.. Many artists are participating and demonstrations should be exciting. Chef Brent has even volunteered to demonstrate ice sculpturing and visitors can watch as they enjoy their meal from the outdoor seating of the front porch. On a side note, the surrounding town of Poseyville also has a rich and storied history including many buildings and homes on the Historical Register. Overall, it’s a great restaurant, some great artwork, a great town and so easy to get to—just off of Interstate 64!
This is a small gallery of wall hangings, mostly paintings and photographs. The gallery is in the Red Wagon restaurant banquet room. Just hang a left when you walk in. There is no admission fee. I like to stop in and look after my meal. Most, if not all, of what is on display is for sale. To the best of my knowledge all of the artists and photographers are regional. Sometimes there are even a few works from young people in the North Posey school district. This is not just a collection of dusty frames that never move or change unless someone buys one. What is on display changes frequently. So don't be afraid to go and look again and again. On occasion, the gallery hosts an exhibit. On a somewhat separate note in regard to art, check out the taxidermy mounts in the restaurant. They are all well done, but some are much, much more than just a head on the wall.
