The Scott County Museum is a great place to take the kids and learn about local history. The displays are updated ever so often so you can visit again and again to continue learning.
This is a beautiful historic property and they change their displays to keep it fresh. We went through a ghost tour at night and heard stories about "inmates" who lived there years ago when it was a poor farm. Friendly staff and volunteers.
This Museum was closed for Labor Day but we learned that it was built in 1872 to house the poor and mentally handicapped. It was open for this purpose until 1973. The house was on 180 acres but looks like it might sit on 5 acres now. The house is big an beautiful and we'd like to have seen the inside and the museum part. On the property is a memorial to those who fought in WWI and WWII. If we get back up that way we want to go inside to find out the rest of it's history.
