A must see in Terre Haute, Brian, the owner and caretaker, really has a passion for military history and the people who have served in the US Military. You don't want to miss it!
This is a small museum but well worth visiting. It is free to the public but donations are appreciated. I believe it is only open on Saturdays. The man that runs the museum does so with such integrity for our Veterans. I volunteered there about a year ago and was blown away by all the memorabilia there from all branches of the military.
If you want an experience seeing a rare historical collection unlike anything you have seen before, this is it! It is truly awesome. A great collection of detail from WWI to present, a must see.
Such a wonderful museum that is full of history. The owner has done everything himself and will give you a personalized tour, full of information you won't find anywhere else. Would definitely recommend. Free but I would strongly suggest leaving a donation since the owner has put all his money, blood, sweat, and tears into this wonderful place.
We were up from Florida visiting relatives and looking for a few things to do on a Tuesday afternoon. We found the Museum on line but it was not open on weekdays. However, it said you could call for appointments on other days. We contacted Brian and he was more than gracious to tell us to give him a call once we got to the museum and he would open it up for us even though we only had six people in our party. We did not even mention that three of the six were veterans, one was a military brat and we all had relatives that had served. We got to the museum and Brian turned out to be just as great as our first impression led us to believe. The museum was very touching and well worth the trip. It is fantastic to see the artifacts and items that tell the history of the military and those that served the country. The admission is free but we left a donation as this is a very worthwhile museum. Thank you Brian for putting it together.
This veterans museum in Terre Haute is an absolute treasure. Brian has assembled an amazing collection of military artifacts and has taken great care to honor the soldier and story behind each exhibit. Spend 30 minutes or 3 hours and honor those who have served, you will not regret the time invested.
Our family stopped by here a few weeks ago and were impressed with the owner's knowledge and willingness to talk with us about his collection and the wonderful people who have contributed to it. This is not just a business, but a passion for this guy. The collection is well organized, with a great variety. This is a great destination for a day trip in the area. Donations graciously accepted.
First would like to say thanks to Brian M. for opening up his Veterans Memorial Museum on Sunday morning/afternoon to allow us to see such a marvelous collection of Military history. Brian gave us a guided tour, giving us the benefit of insights and bits of trivia we would not have noticed had we gone through on our own. Just talking with Brian you can tell this is his passion, and one that he loves to share with others. This museum pays respect to veterans from WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam and modern day conflicts. The collection is well maintained and laid out. From floor to ceiling there is an incredible amount of history shown/displayed. Not only does Brian display the uniforms and other items, but where possible he has the picture of the individual who wore it or provided it. Not just men’s uniforms but also women’s, which quite often tend to be missed. There are things that he has, that you will not see in other museums. Unfortunately our time was limited so we did not see or read half of what was there. But that just means we will be planning another trip to Terre Haute so we can visit once again. As c W noted below “If you travel to Terre Haute and have a patriotic bone in your body, take some time and visit this museum!”
Wow, we didn't know what to expect when we arrived, but were amazed with the collection and the the obvious passion that the has been put into the exhibits and acquiring the various items in the collection. As a current military member, I was humbled at the fact that Brian (the founder of the museum) feels so strongly about those who have served in the military that he would create this museum. If you travel to Terre Haute and have a patriotic bone in your body, take some time and visit this museum!
I am a veteran. I have served in the Army and Air Force and deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. Brian has honored all veterans by collecting and preserving history and the personal memories and stories of individual veterans. It is fantastic! The collection ranges from letters and photos to uniforms and weapons. Do not rush your visit. There is so much to see. If possible try to spend some time with the curator, his appreciation for veterans and knowledge of the collection is boundless. This is a must see!
This is a must see. Absolutely worth the trip. The museum is small, so you can make it through quickly, or take your time and really explore. The owner and operator of this little gem is a veteran himself, and he's really put a lot of love and devotion into this project. He should be commended!
Our visit on Memorial Day included a personal tour, complete with stories about those who had donated items and shared their stories. This is so much more than a collection - it's the journey of those before us, and who made sacrifices for us. Take the time to look, listen, learn and then tell a friend.
I can't say enough about this museum. I took my son for a school project to Terre Haute. We booked the hotel and everything before we knew about this museum. I went on the website and found out that it was closed except for the weekends or by appointment. I called the owner Brian Mundell and explained the situation. When he called me back from his family vacation he had already set up for someone from his business to come and open the museum for me and my son. The museum is a great tribute to this country's veterans. The collections of correspondence from and to servicemen was a big draw. The written documents were well lit so that you could read them if you choose to and the explanations were easy to understand. Some of the pieces in the museum are heart wrenching, like the letter to the mother of the deceased serviceman. The museum is well worth the trip.
This is one of the best museums I have ever seen! Great big awe factor in a small town. Personal items wonderfully displayed. We'll worth your time. WWII is a specialty but it is a great tribute to all factions and eras of the military. Highest ratings! 5 Star Salute!!!
Brian Mundell has done a marvelous job displaying military memorabilia in this wonderful museum. His dedication to support and recognize our country's veterans is truly remarkable. You can't look anywhere in the museum and not see something very cool, and if you have time and Brian is available, he can tell you the story behind most of his collection.
