I had never been here before but someone recommended this. I'm not sorry. AND, I really want to come back. We hiked 11.5 miles of trails and there are tons more. This is a wonderful, scenic, challenging gem not too far from Cincinnati or Louisville
We rented a campsite on the lake, which made it very easy to launch our kayaks. Fishing right next to you RV, and campfire are pretty nice too. Very nice, and shaded sites, the only negative (For Teens) was the lack of cell phone signals. Great time, will return for another visit.
We spent 2 nights (over the weekend) on a lake site and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The bathrooms were very well maintained and even the pit toilets were just fine. There is a beach area for swimming and you can also rent canoes, kayaks and non-motorized boats. The reservation system for Indiana is very easy and very convenient. We enjoyed this campground very much and plan on returning soon. In fact, I am recommending this place to a friend of mine as I type this.
I started going to Starve Hollow with my family in 1974. I was a junior in high school and my girlfriend and I would enjoy laying out in the sun, swimming in the lake, using the springboard, and listening to the jukebox located at the beach house. Fast forward to 2001...after being away for many years my husband took me back to Starve Hollow for my first camping experience. The beach was deserted, the beach house no longer was open, and the lake was full of lily pads, but the campsites were clean and the fishing was good, and I fell in love with camping on that trip. We returned the first two weeks of June with our Class C motorhome, and what an improvement! Electricity was the biggest and most welcome change, and we were so fortunate to have our favorite spot, campsite #1. We find it to be the biggest site with not only lakeside fishing available, but the little lagoon was full of rock bass. The bath house was clean and although I wished for hotter water in the showers, I appreciated the large shower stalls. So many things for kids to do, and we've never had a problem with any of our neighbors...all are respectful of the quiet hours and go out of their way to be friendly. The fishing has improved tremendously, and the aforementioned lily pads have all but disappeared. I'm so happy to be able to return to one of my favorite places and remember the old times and appreciate the new experiences.
The grandkids love the fishing, going out in the boats, cooking over the fire , making new friends Christmas in July, Halloween, the nature center and all the activities . We go 5 or 6 times a year and the kids always has a good time, The camp sites are great, a wonderful place for the whole family, other campers are very nice and helpful.
Always have a good time at this place. So much to do! Boat rental, swimming, activities for the kids at the nature center and fishing at the lake. Beautiful views. Their bathrooms and showers are always clean. Staff is always friendly. Everyone we've taken there with us has loved it too. The kids also have fun spotting birds, frogs, and turtles.
We recently stayed at Starve Hollow this past weekend and had a great time. Very nice campground surrounded by a beautiful lake. I would have rated it a 10 except there was no wifi. We were able to get HDTV stations out of Louisville (SE) which was nice. Grounds people were exceptionally nice and friendly. Some sites are a tad tight to get into so you will need to be careful in that area if you have a large camper. There are some real nice sites on the lake. The road to the State Park is narrow. Will definitely go back again. Could be my favorite campground to date.
This is a wonderful camping area. It may not have the vast hiking areas of Turkey Run, or a public pool, but it has everything else. We have been going there for about six years and the facilities get better each year. Clean bath houses, sandy beach area with volleyball, lots of play areas for the kids, boating, fishing and sites from rustic, to full hook up and now cabins. We plan to stay in one this year. It's never really crowded and there are shelters available for rent and a small worship space we have used in the past to do a little church service. It's really cool. Also, be sure to check out Tiemeyers Farm Market. It has soft serve ice cream, a grill and even a small petting zoo. tiemeyersfarmmarket.com
My wife and I had previously enjoyed our experience at Starve Hollow and recently purchased a Class C RV for some traveling. Our first try out of the new RV was to Starve Hollow for a site on the lake. The reservation system in Indiana is easy and convenient. We were there for 4 days during the week and relaxed and met new friends which was enjoyable. It is only an hour from our home but nice to get away. Clean bath houses and area was well maintained. We will be back.
We have stayed at Starve Hollow twice now and plan to go back this October for their Halloween camping. It has always been a good experience. The bathrooms are clean although by the end of a busy weekend they show extreme usage. By Labor Day Monday they were completely out of toilet paper and soap. This is the only reason I didn't rate this campground as excellent. The campsites are decent size and if you are looking for the best campsite it is definitely #12. It is huge and on the water. It also has a community wash tub right across from it which is handy and it is close enough to the bathrooms without being too close. The campground does offer full hookup which seems rare anymore but it is far from the water and doesn't offer much shade. I would much rather forgo water and sewage hookup for a great lake view and a full shade site. They have improved the lake tremendously from our stay there last July and it was a nice swimming experience with the beach within walking or biking distance from our site. There are also picnic areas and a nice playground at the beach for the kids. You can rent canoes and paddle boats as well. I've heard great things about their trick or treat camping and cant wait to go back to participate.
Very nice park. I would suggest to anyone that likes a nice, clean and fun park to come camping or just to visit. All the facilities were all very clean and the staff was friendly and very knowledgeable of the park and the surrounding area. The hiking trails were nicely groomed and easily marked so you know exactly where you are going. The lake was so beautiful that my family and I rented a boat at the boathouse/campstore that's located in the park where they also had snacks and bait for sale. I will definitely be visiting Starve Hollow next time my family decides to go camping or just to enjoy the great outdoors.
The beach was nice on the lake. You are able to rent boats. Hiking trails were fair, you had to do one or two trails to get to another one.
