Neat design and nighttime lighting.Unique design for what is traditionally railroad style bridges.Sort of a hybrid of the Boston/Bay area bridges as well as keeping with the traditional truss bridge.Great views when crossing the Missouri River

We visited the 18th annual Amelia Earhart Festival celebrating the life and birthday of the famous aviatrix. Atchison Kansas is a clean, friendly little town. It was easy to get around although parking could be a challenge because of the number of visitors. Plenty of craft vendors were set up in town and a variety of established shops were open for business as well. The fireworks show on the riverfront was exceptional!

nice bridge that goes into Missouri, very cool to look at from the bluffs at night !!! the red, white and blue lights on the side are awesome

Replaced last year with a 4 lane bridge of the same name. Smooth, quiet surface! Wonderful light spires and programmed LED lights tracing the arches. Not as cool as the old bridge, but better in every other category.

Beautiful new Amelia Earhart Bridge just opened in July, I think. I love the red and white lights on the side and the two beams of light that shine straight up in the air to,show,Amelia her way back to her childhood home.

You can no longer travel on the bridge. It has been replaced with a new bridge just to the south of it. It is my understanding that eventually the old bridge will be removed.

Nothing special about this bridge, not lighted differently, not painted differently, Just another bridge, ya'all. If you can to Atchison to see the bridge, you might want to take up the hobby of watching paint dry.

We were returning to Michigan from az. taking a route that a trucker friend suggested when we experenced the A E memorial bridge. I have not forgotten it since and was the worst bridge crossing ever...completely see the need for the new bridge! wonder why they waited 10 years too late to do it!!!!!As I approached in my 35' winneabago towing my car I was doing maybe 20 when we started to roll side to side and as I hit the brakes to slow even more I see a semi coming at us from the other side....I kept my eye on the other rig"s mirror and we were butter thin appart and the other side was real close...after that I was ready for a campground and we stopped at the nearby sate park that was going to flood very soon.Until the new bridge is completed I think only one way traffic should be allowed and a speed of 5 miles or under allowed...not sure if I'll risk taking this route this year after open heart surgery!GOOD LUCK WITH THE NEW BRIDGE!

I first saw what is now known as the Amelia Earhart Memorial Bridge the last day of December, 1948. We were coming to Atchison from the Missouri side. I have crossed it many times since, both in a vehicle and on foot. Only in the last few years have I felt any trepidation going over it; the deck of the portion over the river itself is so noisy. By modern standards it is narrow. Soon though, this memory will be only a memory, once the new bridge is completed. This bridge was state of the art when it was completed in 1937. As a teenager in the mid fifties i biked it or hiked it to get fireworks on the Missouri side. It was fun to drop T-bombs, cherry bombs, and M-80's and watch the spouts of water go twenty feet high.

I have traveled over this bridge numerous times. First of all, since when does a bridge count as an attraction. A bridge is a bridge, esp in kansas. If it was the Golden Gate Bridge, or Chesapeak Bay bridge, maybe then, but not Atchison't. The only way it can be considered in attraction is that when crossing it you take your life into your own hands, it is nearing a collapse and has slats in the bottom to view the river. So, those of you who like near-death experiences might like this. Otherwise it is lame. A bridge over a muddy river. The only cool thing about it is that it leads to BENEDICTINE COLLEGE!!!!!! Go Ravens!
