The Quayle Collection is located in the Collins Library at Baker University. It was recommended by a friend who had attended Baker. The collection is only open on Saturday and Sunday, but we were fortunate get a private tour on a Monday. It was much more than I expected with clay tablets from Ur dating back to 2000 BCE, Egyptian papyrus, Pentateuch scrolls, the Koran and many illustrated Bibles. I'd recommend a visit if you are in the KC/Lawrence area.
The Quayle Collection is one of the hidden gems we hear about. It is a very small but extremely well done collection of bibles and other sacred texts. The exhibit we saw in July included woodcuts from the 1500s a 16th century tapestry, engravings and early maps of the holy lands. If you are lucky, you will find one of the grad students working there who will share his passion for the work being done with the biblical texts. Stop by and take a look at the lovely old church brought over from England before you leave the Campus.
