A friend and I went on the spring three day cattle drive with the Moore's and it was something I will remember my entire life. It was so much fun and there was not a single thing that I would have changed. We arrived the night before leaving and were welcomed by Joe and Nancy who are the best hosts in the world. In the morning, they paired us with our horses we would be riding for the next three days and made sure that we felt comfortable with riding and the horse. Their son, Laramie was also a great help and super friendly and easy to talk to. After we got paired up with our horses we drove out to camp, got on our horses and went to find the cattle. We were a little bit nervous being around such large animals but they were great at telling us what to do and what to look out for. Once at camp we would unsaddle the horses and just relax. The first night Joe and Laramie taught us how to rope, the second night Laramie took those who wanted to, to go and shoot some guns. The food was AMAZING!!!!! I did not expect too much but the cast iron cooking of Nancy was some of the best food I have ever eaten. My friend is a vegetarian and Nancy was great about making sure she had options. After hanging around the fire we would go to bed in cowboy rolls in the pasture. They were so comfortable, I camp a lot and would get one of these if I could.Joe, Nancy and Laramie were great about answering the million questions we all had and were great about trying to let us experience anything we wanted to.All and all this was one of the greatest experiences I have ever had and hope to get to do it again soon. It is expensive, but it was worth every penny. You do not have to be an experienced rider to join the cattle drive (many other places require you to pass a riding test). I could write a novel about how great this was. If you get the chance to go. take it!!
This is the second time I've stayed at the Moore Ranch. I am a single traveler who likes to take ranch riding vacations. Joe and Nancy Moore make you feel welcome, comfortable and safe, and their ranch makes you feel refreshed, inspired and happy. Don't expect 400 thread count sheets on the bed, but you will sleep like a baby anyway. Ask for Linus, the perfect horse. This is a chance to experience wide open prairie, with buffalo wallows from the 1800's, wildflowers, beaver dams, longhorn cattle and starry skies.
Joe and Nancy Moore (along with their family) were awesome hosts/guides for our afternoon trail ride on the Kansas prairie. They have high quality horses to ride and they know the landscape like the back of their hands! If you have been disappointed in the past by "bumper to bumper" trail rides, you will be pleasantly surprised by the freedom and adventure that the Moore's facilitate. We enjoyed an added bonus of seeing a group of 8 white tailed bucks on their property. We would come back for sure!
