santa fe trail center

They want you to think that their museum or what ever you want to call it is about the Santa Fe Trail. I saw more about the Trail at Fort Larned which is around three miles from Santa Fe Trail Center and Fort Larned is free to get into and to walk around explore life for the Army in 1866. The Center is under reconstruction and the buildings are so far apart that you don't really know which buildings to go to. The pioneer house is not set up properly and a big disappointment. The cost to get in while under construction should be donations.

We actually stumbled upon this museum while looking for a set of tracks from the original Santa Fe Trail from Fort Larned NHS. The museum is much larger than it first appears. There were several items that I had never seen before in any museum. They also had a horse drawn fire wagon and horse drawn hearse. This hidden treasure is a bit off the beaten path but is worth the trek.

This center was not on my itinerary, but I stopped anyway. I am glad I did. The museum is under renovation and it was OK. What really interested me were the buildings on the grounds....the sod house, one room school, church, depot, and the underground house. Pleasant experience!

The Santa Fe trail center is an excellent stop to learn or discover more about the Santa Fe trail and its part in helping build this country. You can spend a day (or days) or just an hour or two. Cost is minimum. Ask about special events, as they happen several times during the year. Kid friendly, lots to see inside and out. Well worth your time.

I love the Santa Fe Trail Center. It has wonderful displays in the museum and authentic restored buildings from the area. The horse drawn hearse in the museum is the one that carried my Aunt Cecil at age 9 from Bethel Church to the Ash Valley Cemetery. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. I never get tired of visiting.

It seems to be the luck of the draw as to how well informed the attendant at the entrance is. All try to be helpful but don't be surprised to here " I Don't Know" more than once

Im Santa Fe Trail Center nahe der Ortschaft Larned erhält man nicht nur Informationen über den Santa Fe Trail. Neben den Schautafeln und Exponaten im Gebäude selbst bietet es dem besucher auch auf dem Außengelände mit seinen Bauten einen Einblick in die Zeit im späten 19. Jahrhundert. Eine Ausstellungshalle mit alten Traktoren und Farmgeräten gibt es auch.
