vernon filley art museum

The Vernon Filley Art Museum just opened last June and I was totally unaware of it until I saw an advertisement. This small museum is a gem tucked one block off of main street in Pratt, Kansas. Housed in a new building,the museum is the result of Mimi Filley's desire to have a museum and the belief that the only thing you needed to know to purchase art, was what you liked. The museum includes two gallery rooms, a spacious lobby, and a small gift shop. Pieces of the permanent collection rotate through one of the rooms and the other holds traveling exhibits. The works of the permanent collection presently on display are modern in that most of the artists are still living but the works are not abstract or non-representational. The three women at the museum were very friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Just open in June. Fine collection of art from local collector. Traveling exhibits will be on display also. Hidden gem in south central Kansas.
