I was staying downtown and had an opportunity to walk to the exhibit. Well worth the walk. The setup is awesome so you can get great views from all over. Also a very good learning tool

Located just behind the Mid-America All Indian Center at the confluence of the Big and Little Arkansas River, this unique work by Blackbear Bosin is a favorite of painters, photographers and those who love looking at sculpture. For daytime viewing, be sure and cross the river on the footbridge and visit the outdoor American Indian exhibits in the plaza at the foot of the sculpture. If you can, also view the work at night when it's illuminated - especially if you can be there when the Ring of Fire lights off.

Spectacular fire show. Nice addition to wichita. It would nice to have a narrative story before the show.

We decided to go see the flames at the last second and it was spectacular worth braving crossing a pedestrian bridge over the river in frigid weather

I think this is my favorite sculpture in the city. Since it was revitalized with the ring of fire down at the river, it has become one of the most photographed areas around. And it's so accessible to everyone. Plus it was done by the great Blackbear Bosin.

My family and I went to visit this at the recommendation of a friend. I will admit I wasn't to excited. We were able to walk around for about an hour up and down the walkways which was great fun for our two-year-old as there were tons of geese and ducks to watch and chase. My husband and I found the war memorials to be an interesting piece of history. We made it to the bridge and monument just before the lighting of the fire rings with brought out the kid in all of us. What a great iconic travel destination for travelers and locals alike!!!!!

This is a unique destination we always bring visitors to see. It encapsulates a bit of our Wichita pride and history. We always have our visitors look for the troll on the east side of the river underneath the metal grates that allow rain water to pass through. He is frightening and whimsical all in one big bronze package. It makes for a fun seek and find for children and adults.

This is a must if in Wichita!! Not only is a symbol of Wichita, but it is a great place to do things. What things? Things like being alone and thinking as you walk along the river. Things like taking pictures....all kinds of pictures- senior pics, family pics, prom pics, random pics, landscape pic...the list goes on. Like history? Come here and learn about both Wichita and Native American history. Need to exercise? Take a jog along the path nearby. Bring the kids and walk across the bridge and enjoy the eco-system of the river. Look at the dam with the geese and ducks. If the river is low watch the fish from above.I cannot say enough about the Keeper of the Plains!

We came here on a Saturday afternoon, it was freezing cold, the bridge was closed, but we were still able to take some nice pictures, you have the Keeper, the bridge, the river, and if you frame it right, the dowtown buildings as background. This Area makes Wichita feel modern and vibrant.

It is interesting to visit here at any time, nice place to walk along the river. At night when they light the fire it is like magic in the air, great time to make a wish and just spend quality time with the family

The site is large and a memorable for children especially the lighting of the fire at night. The location at the confluence of the Little and Big Arkansas Rivers is historic in Kansas history. The Keeper of the Plains statue is a special art creation from a famous Kansas native American Indian Black Bear Bosin. A visitor can go to this site and visit the Wichita Art Museum nearby.

Lovely sculpture through out downtown. This is an eye catching piece of art that fit the culture of the area.

The Keeper of the Plains is a tribute to the tribes which used to gather here in Kansas. Black Bear Bosin was a talented artist. The Indian Center has a video on the making of this sculpture which is worth a look if one is interested in Bosin's art & Kansas history. The walk around the Keeper makes this visit a great place to take the kids for a history lesson. At night, when the pots are lit, the Keeper is a sight to behold. It is a must see if one is visiting Wichita, KS.
