Went into the building for the first time in years. Looked around the visitor center and went on the tour to the top of the dome. Great view but takes some effort.
The Capitol renovation was finally complete in 2014 after 13 years and spending $300 million. It was worth every penny spent on this grand building of ours. I feel proud every time I step inside.Tours run every hour from the Visitors Center. I've been on 4 tours and I'd gladly take another because I learn new stories and details every time. Our Capitol is one of the top Capitols in the nation. Enjoy. You will be amazed!
The renovation of the Kansas State Capitol Building is beautiful. There are two tours available, one to the top of the rotunda (297 steps) and one of the entire building. Thevolunteers are delightful. Both tours are free. There is free underground parking available.
stand looking down on the mighty rotunda - stand in awe of mural of john brown or if you dare climb the steps to the top of the dome.
The tours are very informative with time for questions along the way! Very nice gift shop in the capitol also.
The capitol building has recently completed a first class renovation. It is absolutely gorgeous and anyone in the vicinity should stop to take the tour and go to the top of the dome. It has been renovated to its original grandeur. It is a feast for the eyes!
It took years and millions of dollars to complete the renovation but in the end it was well worth it. It is beautiful and a gem in the midwest. A must see!!
The newly-renovated Kansas State Capital building in Topeka is absolutely beautiful. It is visitor friendly and worth the trip to see.
Great tour. It took just over 1 hour and our tour guide was doing his doctorate in History which was such a fantastic bonus. The Capitol building has been painstakingly restored and is worth the time to enjoy it. Being from outside the state, I was intrigued to hear the history. Start training now so you can make the 296 stairs to the top of the dome.
The Kansas State Capitol Building has been under reconstruction for many years and happy to say it is finished to it's original glory. Stop by and have your picture taken in the rotunda or on the steps.
The capitol tour led by Larry was the best Capitol tour we had experienced. He was entertaining, had us singing , laughing and learning during the entire hour. We like the tour so much that we signed up for the Dome tour after. Tours are free so go.Historic Capital tour is hourly starts at the lobby below the capitol except lunch hour.Dome tour starts at the 5th floor. Be warn it has 296 steps and the top is narrow and circular. The guide do make multiple stops climbing up so you can rest. The top offers you the view of Topeka. The guide did say in the summer it is very hot at the Dome.Plenty of free parking on site.
I give a free tour of the steps leading all the way up into the spiral on the top where you can see the entire city. Bring your camera take amazing pictures but don't know when it's really hot because the higher you go the hotter it gets in that buildingOur Tour guide I wasn't very good but the one named Darren is extremely good.
The most beautiful man-made eye candy I have ever experienced. Completely in awe and can't believe people work there.
Great tour of beautifully restored state capitol building. The copper pillars and railings are gorgeous. Great to see they took the building back to the original 1880s decor. The tour guide is knowledgable and helpful. Four tours each weekday morning and afternoon. Enter new visitors center (and go through security) from the north on the ground level. 2 hour free parking below. Tour is a little over an hour. Use the rest of the time to see the Tiffany windows across the street in the Presbyterian Church.
We weren't able to do a tour since they aren't available on Saturdays, but we were still able to walk around inside the Capitol. It is beautiful inside with tons of history and murals. We were there during the holiday season and there was a tree in the center. We were also able to see the Supreme Court room and go in. It would have been nice to go to the top with time. There isn't a ton to do but it is a nice stop if you have time.
