The Greenways are great trails! My husband walks them all of the time and I have joined him in the past. He really enjoys the Indian Creek Greenway and will often drive to the trailhead to walk this trail!
A very good trail for running and biking. Great nature is all around and the air is fresh.Perfect for the sort runs and for the long walks. Can be little bit messy after the heavy rains.
I really enjoyed this trail running right by the Doubletree Hotel where we were staying. Not even .2 mille from the hotel entrance I was on the trail. I ran 5 mi SW to Pflumm road where I found a Walgreens at which to refuel before turning back.Following the creek, the trail provided an underpass at every street crossing, except the very first near the hotel. It is mostly asphalt with a little concrete in spots. I wish there were route markers as I felt a little uneasy at some forks in the path deciding which to take.I encountered walkers, dog walkers, bicyclists, other runners and some ducks enjoying the creek. The path easily accommodated all. The path meanders along the creek with some small nicely done bridges and short, low but sometimes steep rolling hills. Close to many residences, it felt secluded but not uncomfortably alone.
I was on a business trip for 6 weeks in Overland Park, KS and was so pleased that I remembered to take my bike along with me so that I could bike this trail! This trail meanders through upscale neighborhoods, takes you alongside a small creek and over some cute bridges, and goes on for at least 15 miles or more. I rode the trail a few times, enjoyed it immensely. There aren't many neighborhoods that have something like this--actually, that can afford something like this--so it is a nice perk when it is available. For those who venture to Overland Park, it doesn't take long to see why they have a bike trail of this quality and scale--it is an affluent region and has tons of upscale neighborhoods, shopping areas, and very good restaurants.
A little twisty for my taste, but not heavily traveled and great scenery. Runs right along a creek and through a forest for part of the trail. Also goes by a residential area. Consistently nice place to go for a run!
This trail from start to finish is over 25 miles, starting in Southwest KC and ending in Olathe. There are literally scores of trailheads and most of them with parking lots, so it is easy to pick a section of almost any length, 2, 5 or 10 miles and figure out your starting and turnaround points. Many stretches are shady for nice walks or runs on hot summer days and the trail is a peaceful and beautiful winter wonderland on a cold snowy day. It's great for walkers, runners, bikers, and roller skates or blades and for single athletes on a workout or mom, dad and the kids on a family bike ride.It is right in the heart of suburban Johnson County and is to reach form most anyplace in the metro.
Overland Park has a number of wonderful hiking/biking trails, and Indian Creek Greenway is one of them. Paths are paved and wide enough to accommodate both bicycles and pedestrians, and an occasional in-line skater. Paths wind through wood areas and over creeks. If you're careful, you may come across deer and other wildlife. Great, safe place to bike!
Great venue for biking. Wide paved trails with some markers that follows Indian Creek. Like getting away from the big city without leaving town! Convenient and well-maintained. Downside: Due to highway/road construction some parts have been closed and it doesn't connect for the whole trail. We ride parts and find a different trail head for the next ride so that we can continue our adventures!
It is a beautiful area, along a creek, filled with color and nature. Great place to take my dog for a walk.
Johnson County has many lovely paths to walk. This is another. If you are lucky, you will see the deer along the creek in the mornings and evenings
I have been a runner for almost 30 years and have run all over the world. Some places are obviously more picturesque than others, as well as safer than others. This place is a hop, skip and a jump from either the Hampton Inn or the Embassy Suites. It is both a really beautiful scenic run along the waters' edge and safe with many people out enjoying the beauty of it all. Even if you are not a runner, I highly recommend that you take a walk along this creek and I GUARANTEE you will be glad you did!
I love this trail. It is safe, well-maintained, and easy for riding, running, and walking. It follows Indian Creek for miles, and weaves through suburban and urban areas. At times, while walking along the bubbling creek, you can feel that you are in the middle of nowhere, away from all civilization. Other places offer easy spots for leaving the trail to use a park restroom, grab a bite to eat, etc. We can even walk from our house to the neighborhood bar, Barley's Brewhaus, on this trail. It is especially beautiful in the fall and winter. Look for turtles down in the creek on sunny days - they sun themselves on logs. Be aware of fast cyclists, and keep to the right. If you are a cyclist, know that there will be families with dogs and toddlers and that they might not always be all the way over on the right!
Follows a stream in many places and green space. You can always see a heron - almost daily. Lots of wildlife in the evenings, almost always deer. Really flat (it's in Kansas you know).
Safe and well maintained. The trail follows the creek and it is beautiful. Lots of flowers and birds. Superb for walking or running especially if you need a trail for long runs.
More than 60 miles of paths for biking, hiking, skating, or strolling. Great parks with playgrounds dot the entire length of the greenway. Not uncommon to come across deer and other wildlife along the path. Really an escape from the city, only steps away
