the winding road to Hana made me wonder if it was all worth it? But once we got there, we pulled out the picnic lunch and just soaked it all in! The scenery, the weather, the breeze made the sandwich lunch seem like a five star restaurant! Then we went down to the black sand beach and toured the lava tubes, and blow hole. Scenery like none other on the planet!
We stopped on our trip to Hana. There is a lot to see here. Bring a swim suit to swim or just lay on the black sand beach. There is a nice walking trail that takes you along the beach from one blow hole to another, over the beach, to the caves and lava tube. We were there during whale season and saw whales left and right. Could have spent all day looking at whales as there were so many. Definitely have your camera for this very scenic park. Also, have good walking shoes. There is a campsite here if interested in camping overnight.
THis is one of my top three favourite places on Maui! Unreal, DO NOT miss this gem. The black sand is so beautiful and the black against the green makes great photo opportunities!
Scenery is great...black sand beach is much different than ours in NC. Many trails...caves. There are picnic areas...restrooms. Many views for great photos.
the black sand beaches and the caves were so cool. The trail leads all along the coast line but it's up and down, wear good sandals.
This park offers different things such as camping, picnic tables and trails to waters edge. Black Sand Beach is nearby by trail. Good to take the family to for a picnic.
The Wai'anapanapa Black Sand Beach was my favorite stop on the road to Hana. It was totally different than everything else on the island because of the black sand and the beautiful turquoise water.
This is a beautiful beautiful park - and be sure not only to visit the well attended Black Sand Beach, but take the trail South and gaze out at the fantastic wild lava coastline. We even saw a bunch of humpback whales.
We made the mistake of only giving ourselves a little over an hour here. I'd say give yourself a solid 3-3.5 hours. There's a nice hike here, a blowhole, lava tube, the black sand beach, and breathtaking cliffs. This is also a pretty nice camp site. If you like camping, I'd highly recommend this being your stop over so you can see more of the Road to Hana.
Great black sand beach next to the campsite. Lava tube caves close by were also neat. We loved walking on the trail along the beach and black cliffs and watching the ocean's fury.Sunrise was spectacular.
