Mokulele Airlines flies pretty low so you have the chance to see many parts of Molokai during the flight. Some spectacular sights!
Google Walter Naki and reserve a Moloka'i Pali coast boat ride and fishing trip - (the water was too high the day we went, but he will also show you how snorkeling is done, on a calmer day - he is the best around all-hawai'i) The cliffs are staggering, the waterfalls blow you away. Walter is the man. Do it.
Looking up at the sea cliffs from just above sea level at Kalawao was wonderful. Crashing waves, rainbows and the threat of rain - perfect!
the drive was so slow paced and wonderful. this is the sunday drive! take it slow great little churches to check out the coast line was so beautiful! check it out.
Excellent views good road fun drive. Winding along the coastal highway one can make many stops for photos. Take a picnic lunch with you to fully enjoy the drive and the views. Hawaii at its best
As others reviewers write, this is an awesome view and incredible wonder of nature. Probably more people know about 'pali' (Hawai'ian term for sea cliffs) from the movies shot on Kaua'i, such as Jurassic Park, and filmed from the air - often the best or only way. Tiny Moloka'i is said to have the world's tallest sea cliffs. It's very difficult to visit Molokai (by tiny plane or boat) and not be impressed by the cliffs as you approach the tiny, but high-off-the-ground island. By air you can appreciate how truly high the cliffs are, or equally if you approach by boat. With the Kalaupapa Peninsula just at sea level (in the shape of a 'flat leaf') the isolation colony of Father Damien peers up at sheer cliffs, some images of which I recognize from reviewers' posts. Also this was the backdrop, correctly so, for the movie(s) named "Moloka'i". There are also hiking routes to, down, over and under the pali across Moloka'i, and as in Kaua'i, you get a sense of history, spiritual connection with nature, and different perspective on the world seeing these wonders of nature - throughout the Hawai'ian islands, since ancient days. Do know there's lots of hunting in the east, and you need a 4WD and to know the trails for some of the vantage points. But Moloka'i does have some majestic pali to match the island's history and its people's love of the land and sea.
The northern side of Molokai has the highest ocean cliffs in the world. Some as high as 4,000 feet. The views from the outlook are incredible.....breathtaking. Beautiful.
cruised the North Shore on a friend's boat. No other humans around! Not one boat. Only saw us and the majestic natural creations.
My wife and I rode out some abandoned roads off of 480 and got spectacular view to the east and the west. I would give you more detail, but nothing was marked. We just headed west toward the end of 480 and kept making rights (north) toward to beach/cliffs. One of the roads took us past tons of abandoned cars and large appliances. The landscape was almost lunar-like. It was really cool.
We saw this coast from an air tour and from a ground tour. Awesome views. Coming from the Virginia Atlantic coast where the land meets the sea at sea level, this was amazingly different. Beautiful!
Since I suffer vertigo I did not go completely out to the edge......yikes. But the view I did get was spectacular. The windsong throught the pine trees was comforting.
An unbelievably beautiful hike down the tallest sea cliffs in the world. A grueling trek with 26 switchbacks and 3.5 miles of stairs. Be sure to take extra water and look for the strawberry guavas near the top of the cliffs. No one can enter Kalaupapa without a sponsor or tour guide but once you enter be ready for one of the most spiritual days of your life in what was once a leper colony. There are mule rides and small planes that can get you to the bottom but my wife and I took the hike and we will never forget the time we spent there. This is a very extreme hike, and do not go when it is raining. You will die.
liked the awesome scenic view from the 'free" u.s. park overlook of kalaupapa island & scenic view of pali eastern coast. highest cliffs in the world?
My husband and I saw the cliffs from the Kalaupapa Overlook, we saw them as we rode the mules to and from the former leper colony, we saw them during the tour, and a few days later we hiked west from the Kalaupapa Overlook for different views. All were spectacularly beautiful. How long you spend here depends on you, your schedule, and your fitness level. Altogether, we spent many hours here during different visits.
It is very narrow if you meet another car. Great views. Camping at the water's edge.
