We went to this secluded beach several times. There were usually a few other people, but not at all crowded. It was the only place here on the west end that you can actually get into the water and swim.

This is the only Molokai beach we visited with people on it. Too much turbulence for good snorkeling the day we were there, but great swimming. A beautiful spot!

Dangerously high surf during several days of our December visit pounded breaking waves into this normally protected and calm cove. Even so, It still was a perfect picnic place. I hope to go to Molokai again some day & find this cove calm and inviting.

This is kind of hard to find place, and we were very lucky to find it. The beach is located at the last public beach access. The rocks with smiley faces are actually at the parking, so you won't find them from the main road.Unlike Papohaku Beach, the water is very calm, and suitable for swimming. You see more people swimming and sun bathing here.

I love Dixie Maru Beach on Molokai! My BFF lives in Kaunakakai and her ohana brought us here 10 years ago when we visited Molokai for the very first time. Dixie Maru is absolutely stunning, completely unspoiled and a perfect spot to swim, body board, snorkel and just hang out in the warm sun. Dixie is about 40 minutes away from Kaunakakai and you should stop at the state beach a few miles before if you need to go to the bathroom before or after. It's a small parking lot and you must back out in order to get out of the area when leaving. No worries there's never a lot of traffic There's a beach shower in the parking lot to clean off after your fun in the sun. Make sure you bring a lawn chair, sunblock slippas and a towel. Wear your slippas down towards the beach to protect your feet from thorny branches from the kiawe trees. While the kiawe trees provide a nice shade make sure you move all the thorny branches away before you plop your towel/lawn chair down. Those things hurt even when they puncture your slippa. When in doubt, bring some tobbies.Dixie Maru is an awesome swimming beach. Nestled in a cove and and protected by a reef, the water is fairly calm for you to enjoy swimming, snorkeling and all the family fun. Bring a picnic and enjoy this wonderful spot. No lifeguards and don't keep any valuables in your car.

This is a fantastic beach, hardly anyone on it, suitable for swimming and snorkeling depending on winds, but calm compared to other Molokai beaches. Ideal to sunbathe in peace and quiet. Good for families.

This was one of the few clear beaches we could swim at given there are no lifeguards on Molokai and we are not the best swimmers. Crystal clear, minimal waves, gorgeous view and nice hikes that start here.

At the end of the road park your car and it's a short walk to the beach. Wear sandals to protect from stones and acacia thorns underfoot. No change or washroom facilities so come prepared. Bring chairs and beach mats to enjoy the views and sun. The beach forms a nice cove with barrier rocks and reef protecting from large waves. A great place to swim safely by all ages. Trees at the beach edge provide a bit of shade until about 1pm. Highly recommended!

It is a small cove that has protected waters. It is rare to find a swimmable beach on Molokai in the winter months. It was somewhat crowed all the days we went there, but nothing like the other islands. We saw monk seals among the rocks at on end of the beach and turtles in the water. The locals come there to boogie board and provide great entertainment. You can snorkel here, but if you go too far out there is a strong current that will try to suck you out to sea. There are great shade spots all along this beach, but beware there are very long, sharp thorns in the sand along the tree line. We spent several lovely afternoons here reading in the shade and dipping in the water. My husband snorkeled and swam.

At the very end of the road, at the end of a rainbow, a pot of gold!A small, perfectly protected, easily accessed stellar beach. Picnic tables, clear clean water. Rudimentary toilet facilities, but with potable running water. The big plus- nobody much there! Unlike comparable beaches on other islands, this one attracted us and 4 other folks for a late afternoon/sunset swim.

Dixie Maru is a great place for snorkeling on Molokai. It is in a natural cove so is protected from the wind. Lots of interesting fish and smooth water. Also a very beautiful site to hang out. Its a little hard to find so get detailed directions from a local person. Enjoy!

It is the only beach we visited that was sandy that you could swim in (no current). Very nice and quiet and a bit of hiking on both sides. The nearby 3 mile beach is excellent for walking - but is a major workout.

The lagoon type area where we swam was perfectly sheltered. The water wasn't too rough. There were a handful of other families present, but it didn't deter from the experience. Plus, when working on my tan, I noticed whales just beyond the shelter of the beach.

This particular beach lies near the end of Pohakuloa Road. It is a nice half moon shaped cove with mostly white sand. In the middle of the cove is what remains of the Japanese ship that gives the cove it's name...snorkeling the cove we easily found a large anchor and partial hull of the ship. The cove is safe for swimming but once you pass beyond the mouth of the cove the current and winds can easily take away an inexperienced swimmer. This hazard was really brought home while we were there...a couple in a kayak were dumped over by the waves at the mouth of the cove....the male swam to get the paddles and the female swam to the kayak...within moments the kayak and female were on their way out to sea. A fire department rescue team had to respond with jet skis to retrieve the woman and the kayak. By the time they were able to locate the kayak and woman they had been blown over 2 miles out to sea...on "their way to the Penguin Banks" according to the fire crew.

The wind blew like mad the whole time we were in Molokai - the 3-Mile beach was beautiful but you couldn't sit out on it in the wind and the surf was way too rough in February. But Dixie Maru was protected from the wind and the little bay was also protected from the rough ocean waves and currents so you could swim there safely. We went there twice and there weren't many people there either time.
