The Crane Foundation has done a remarkable job . The site is lovely with prairie flowers and a meandering path that takes you by the differing habitats for the cranes of the world . Try to time your visit to take advantage of one of the tours. Informative and you will learn plenty. Lovely gift shop and helpful staff.
This a wonderful place tucked in the Baraboo hills. Learn about cranes and their habitats. The annual membership has additional local interests. Hiking also permitted on designated trails. You will love the educational aspects of the foundation and enjoy the natural settings.
Really cool. The cranes are amazing. And it an adventure in itself. The staff is wonderful. I would highly reccomend it.
It was interesting to see all the cranes of the world in one place. They are housed in a very natural looking setting.
Took my parents here when they were over for a visit. This place offers a close up view of some pretty spectacular cranes. Trails are well paved and there is a motorized cart (Rascal) for those who cannot walk far. Reasonably priced and decent gift store on site as well. Tour on your own or take a guided tour. The Whooping Crane pavilion near the end of our tour was really neat. Stadium to sit in and just watch the birds. Great photo opportunities!
There are only 15 species of cranes in the world and this is the only place that you can see them all. Their main focus os preserving thiese species.
My Grandchildren 4 and 7 picked the foundation from tourist brochures after eating one day. They wanted to go. I was surprised for them to want to go. It was very nice and beautifully set in the cranes natural habitat. They have beautiful ponds with seating along the water. Being able to see the cranes eating and drinking hold the children's interest. They were also interested in the movie, by the gift shop. One exhibit has statues of hippos and a background painting that takes wonderful pictures with the children. I took some for a family and they did the same for me. Many people were using their cameras.
We found this attraction to be very interesting. A large array of cranes. Well worth our time to tour.
I've been an avid birder since I was 11. I had heard about this place and always wanted to go there. Last May I got the chance. This is a very nice attraction. The cranes are fantastic. To get to see so many exotic birds in one spot is a joy to anyone who is into birding and the grandeur of nature. To be able to stand a few feet from a Whooping crane is magical. Some of the cranes are very vocal. Some will be aggressive. All of them are stars. This is not to be missed.
I was very impressed that the International Crane Foundation has all 15 varieties of cranes that are left in the world. The displays are very nicely done, and all the cranes were out when we visited. The Siberian cranes were very noisy, a little surprised how they sound. Highly recommend coming to visit when you are in the Wisconsin Dells area, nice gift shop too.
I was so excited to learn about this place while doing research for our trip. I have followed the effort to bring back the Whooping Crane for years and have always been so supportive of their work. But to actually be at the place where it all began was inspiring. This is a treasure. We were able to see all the cranes species of the world save one (we were told they were in the back nesting). We saw babies Wasabi- a hooded crane, and Curry- a sari crane. Most wonderful of all were the two Whooping Cranes. They are in an open area with a pond, no fence to separate us. I sat for quite awhile enjoying them and watching their different movements. They are beautiful. Thank you so much ICF for working so hard in their behalf. We missed the guided tour, but enjoyed the small gift shop. This is a great facility.
Beautiful setting of created wetlands. The impact of the whole ecosystem is very carefully explained. These birds are so regal- a joy to just sit and watch.
We had a great tour guide that took us through the grounds and explalined the different species of cranes and told us about their habitats, etc. This is the only place that you can actually see all 15 varieties of cranes in one place. There are some beautiful cranes here to watch in natural settings.
We took our Grandsons here and they both had a good time. it is a very relaxing place. The Cranes are Beautiful I never knew there where so many different species.
The ICF has birds representing all of the species of cranes found in the world. They do an outstanding job of breeding endangered species and releasing them into the wild. In addition to the beautiful viewing facilities, there are nature trials to hike. The area is a restored prairie so there is something for plant lovers to enjoy. A small gift shop is available with quality merchandise.
