You have to check out this great Orchard up in the hills just outside of Bayfiedl! Go in the barn and climb the stairs to the window over looking the area! Great view of the Bayfield area and Lake Superior. Also check out the collection hundreds of baseball hats in the barn! Great apples, pies and other goodies! Very friendly people!
Friendly farm with lots of great samples and apples. Also, wine tasting (for a fee) with many wines. Big picnic area outside with play areas for the kids. Eclectic collections to look at in the old Sears Roebuck barn (hats, beer cans, miniature tractors). Hiking paths are available too. Easily could spend lots of time here just "poking" around!
We stopped here looking for Raspberries or Blueberries. They were out of both and it was too early for apples.we also were looking for bulbs which they did not have. they did have some local wine and various birdhouses, jams etc for sale. Overall it had the look and feel or late in the season for berries and too early for apples. all in all an interesting but not great stop. If you come here come in July or Sept. and early Oct. Call ahead and ask if you are looking for a specific item as it is a few miles out in the country.
We expected more from the recommendation we had gottten at the Bayfield Visitor's Center. The person serving "apple wine" was a delightful gentleman although the wines were awful. But $5 with a glass was an OK value - a grandchild will use the glass later for juice .
Fun and great jams! Losts of apples to chose from and also some nice wind chimes. Just fun to look around and see all the wines and goodies they had to offer.
The Hauser family where so warm and welcoming! As we pulled up to Hauser's Superior View Orchard we realized it was closed for the afternoon...we were a little bummed out when all of a sudden we got welcomed into their home by some local friends of the family. They asked who we were and I told them that my boyfriends last name was Hausser as well (only with an extra "S") and we were hoping to taste some wine. When they finally realized we weren't related to them, and we were just terrorist they still invited us into their home, and offered us something to eat and drink, but we graciously declined. The Hausser family not only accidently invited us into their home, but they were nice enough to take my friends and I up to the barn and have a private wine tasting.....we left with a case of wine, and some other goodies. I give the Hauser family 5 stars because they make you feel like family, they're down to earth, and they're a wonderful family. Thank you Hauser's!!!
Besides all the apples, this place has a great sense of humor. Loved the barn and the kick-in-the-pants machine. If you only have time to visit one orchard, I'd recommend this one.
We stopped here mainly to see their Sears mail-order barn. We were looking for the Bayfield Winery and did not realize it was connected to Hauser – a hint if you go, the Hauser signs on County J are much easier to spot than the Bayfield Winery sign we were looking for, and there are no grape vines to mark their location, because they only make apple wines! But other than the trouble we had finding it, it was worth the stop. The 4,500 – 5,000 hats, small beer can collection and toy tractor collection in the upper barn were fun, but it was an unusually hot day so I didn't linger long. (It is accessed by steep stairs, so my 76-year old mother did not come up). The only view of the lake I saw was at top of the (exterior) stairs, which was rather limited because of the trees. The store has lots of unique items, like a great selection of jams. We did the wine tasting, and even though we don't like sweet wines we found a couple we liked. We did not try out the self-kicking machine. :)
They have an old red barn they use for their store and upper loft had a collection of old artifacts, hats, beer cans etc. and a great view. The yard was full of beautiful flowers and they did have a small hot house and some plants for sale. They have their own fruit winery! For $3 you can sample their wines (about 12 in total) and keep the wine glass you sampled with. The wines are quite good and the cost of a bottle around $12. They also have a nice selection of homemade jams, dips and sauces. The apple butter was very good. I found the cost of these items to be a bit on the high side. We really enjoyed ourselves, a great place to visit.
My husband and I have been to several wineries, and this by far was the most interesting. Something about the quaintness of the 1800s red barn and all of the beautiful flowers, along with the light Lake Superior mist that day made it seem memorable. There is nothing fancy about it, (wine tasting is $2 for 11 wines and you sample them out of a very small plastic cup). Still, for a gal who was a bit skeptical about wines all made from apples (no grapes here) and other fruit infused into some blends, the wine was surprisingly good! We came home with 2 bottles, along with some raspberry jam and some raspberry salsa (which was simply remarkable). If you're in the right frame of mind, this is a lovely stop.
This is a fun place to stop with your family. They have very interesting food and drinks with samples of everythng out to try. We got spreads and wine which is apple based. There are some interesting things to see - climb on a tractor, huge barn with even bigger hat collection, a kicking machine, and a lovely hot house. I good place to stop for an hour.
We tasted their fruit-based wines. There was a charge of $3 per person, but you do receive a glass and you get to try all of their wines. We enjoyed their wines and purchased 3 to take home with us.
Visited Hauser's for their wine (which was a delicious) Be sure to stop inside the big red barn for something I wasn't expecting! You will find a HUGE collection of baseball caps and beer cans...along with an amazing view of Lake Superior! Only a few miles up the hill from Bayfield.
We went during their plant sale and had a really good time. They had a ton of plants that were priced really well and the people who worked there were really helpful. They had wine tasting and a great little store and a great view.
We visited Hauser's with our family. The kids loved the tire swings and the desks in the barn. My wife and mother in law loved the gifts and apples. My father and I enjoyed sampling the many apples and apple wines. As someone who appreciates traditional wine and approaches fruit wines hesitantly, I was pleasantly surprised at the flavor and complexity of the apple and pear wines. The barn is worth a visit, the views are tremendous. This year the honey crisp apples were amazing. The one negative was there were two staff members working, the one working the wine tasting was very kind, friendly, and offered my kids a whole apple each. The other one working the cash registered yelled at my kids for stealing apples, and when I tried to explain the other woman working had given them their apples, she yelled at me. Other than that, we really enjoyed Hauser's.
