The tour goes for about an hour and the tour guides are super knowledgeable on the geology of the cave and how it formed. Our kids, ages 9 and 12 loved the tour and they learned some interesting facts at the same time.
I've been in caves all over the USA and this one will simply stun you, Cave of the Mounds has formations not found any place else in the states, but that are found in European Caves...come and learn, you'll be greeted with a smile, and very knowledgeable staff will make this tour worth your time.
Loved the event, disappointed the food was gone when we arrived. The caves were incredible but crowded because we arrived last. I would recommended showing up before the event starts so that you can take your time and not have to worry about getting stuck behind someone who was taking a picture at every turn.
Had a fantastic time touring Cave of the Mounds! The staff is friendly and knowledgable. What a beautiful treasure!
Imagine finding an incredible underground cave in your backyard? Cave of the Mounds is a National landmark, and a must see. Nature at her finest.
Cave of the Mounds is a small cave, but lovely tour. It's an intimate cave that winds down with great nooks and crannies! The tour itself is usually great, too. Check it out, and then visit the cute small town of Mt. Horeb near-by for shopping, food, a wine tasting or Grumpy Troll Brewery.I <heart> caves, and this one is at the top of the list!
An interesting small cavern. Not in the same class as Onandaga in Missouri, but nevertheless enjoyable. Some of the passages are pretty tight. Not for claustrophobics!! Worth doing but go to House on the Rock first!!!
I loved being able to see how nature can make such a beautiful thing. The tour was great full of info the whole time. The only thing is I wish they would keep the lights on longer for pictures. It was so amazing how they accidentaly found something so breathtaking. The cost of the tour is totally worth it for the views underground. Also 50degreez and warm during the winter! Nice compared to 18degrees!:) Only major issue was there was not much there for the handicap or disabled. Especially for the deaf or hard of hearing. They need light at all time to see someone interpreting and they need to put closed captions on the video they show at the beg. Of the tour. That would make this the ultimate cave to visit.
Its my first time experience of Caves and loved it. The inside the cave tour would be for around 40 Minutes. My friends family had kids and they enjoyed the activity outside the attraction. I think it would be more interesting if there were a nice park around the attraction. Also is a museum like construction on the back side of the Cave entrance if you would like to kill some time.
We picked up a flier about Cave of the Mounds from a gas station on our way to Madison. Our family decided to take the afternoon and give this place a try. My 6 and 4 year old girls loved the gift shop and gem dig site. My 6 year old loved the tour. There is a very narrow section that I could barely fit through with my Ergo baby carrier and 3 month baby in it. We are glad we took a chance and made the side trip.
There are many ways to spend time today but few offer the opportunity for your kids to experience the truly mysterious. My daughters, age 3, 6, and 11, asked questions during the entire tour. A fun way to spend an hour or so- I believe it is unforgettable.
Visited cave of mounds in Blue mounds, WI in October 2014. It was an awesome experience and first time for me. Thought it is a small cave, it is maintained well and guide was very knowledgeable. He clarified all questions and was able maintain interest with in visitors.A must see in Wisconsin and open round the year. Recommend this place for family.
Tour lasted about 45 minutes and for our family of 4 it was just over $50 admission! We were escorted around a cave to see rock formations. Was neat but not $50 neat. Seen it done it. No need to return. Can think of other ways to spend $50.
We went to visit the cave with my daughter and her family. They were celebrating Halloween in the cave and the grand kids were given various rocks throughout the tour. I had not been there since my adult children were small and had forgotten how stunning it was. The countryside near the cave was also stunning. A perfect way to spend a fall afternoon. We did walk on the trails afterwards since the weather was so nice. The grand kids enjoyed panning for rocks at the gift shop.
We stopped at the cave on our way back from the Dells. So glad we went out of our way to make it here. The drive from the Dells to this cave location was just gorgeous through small towns, rolling hills and beautiful sweeping dairy & grain farms. All of the fall colors just exploded off the fields, trees and sky. Once we made it to the cave we were really awed by the story of how this cave was accidentally discovered in a farmer's field. The cave is really very beautiful. Not filled up with colored lights the way some tour caves are. Modern walk ways and lights have been added to make it easy to tour, but these are well done and do not distract terribly from the tour. The grounds & nature trails are beautiful as well & make a perfect picnicking place if travelling as we were.
