A lot of neat things to see. Is bigger than it appears from the outside. There are some hands on areas and plenty of things to take pictures of.
This is not a large museum, but we found it to be a nice county museum with good variety. It is worth checking out while in Door County.
This place looked small and unimpressive from the street. But it is expansive on the inside and packed full of history and interesting things! There is an actual jail cell you can enter, a fire truck you can sit in, and many of the exhibits are interactive. As an adult I could have spent hours here just reading and looking at things! The museum is technically free but the little old ladies who work there aren't shy about mentioning that donations are accepted. And they deserve the donations for all the work and care that is obviously put into this place!
We weren't planning on stopping here, but I'm glad we did, Nicely organized, Not too big and not too small - really a nice size museum and the price can't be beat. We'd come back again when we have more time.
The museum is free although they request a $2 donation, which is well worth the wealth of what one can learn through a visit. The museum looks small from the outside, but they have used the space very well to share lots of details about the area. There is a nature section up front that informs visitors about local animals. Then there are extensive historical sections including some hands-on parts fun both for those young in age and young at heart. I very much appreciated the section in the lower area with the old town storefronts. The upper area continues with more. Finally, we visited the fire truck room, which has much more than firetrucks, it turns out, although those themselves are fun to see.Whether you visit before, during, or at the end of your stay in Door County, I highly recommend finding a bit of time to explore its history and natural environment in this wonderful little museum.
Stopped in to check it out and was greeted and told the story about the museum and wildlife exhibit. We will return again to check it out deeper.
This small museum had many artifacts from the Door County area which was nice to read about as it was our first time in Door County. On the side of the museum they had old fire trucks were my son could go on top on one of them. He had a great time with the fire trucks and the jail.
Small enough that it won't take up your whole afternoon. Have breakfast from the Farmer's Market on Saturday and then stroll over here afterwards. Lots of historical artifacts.
We saw a dvd on Cherry Picking in Door County. I learned a lot about why this and other industries began here years ago. Good place to visit on a rainy day. They have some good displays of items not seen anymore.
This place was incredible!! It had so much to see for such a small place. It was very well put together and definitely a must see if visiting Door County. We loved it!
What a nice small museum. If you have a couple of hours, then this is a great stop. There is a lot of local history in a small area. You can also see lots of antiques from small to large. There is no admission fee, but a suggested donation of $2 per person.
Great overview of the history of the area. Well done and friendly staff. My boys especially enjoyed the vintage fire trucks and jail cell!
Took our Boy Scout Troop there and they enjoyed the exhibits there. There are items they could hold or climb on (old fire truck) and that added to the appeal of the museum. Thank you for a wonderful time!
Nice museum with a lot of information about Door County. Admission is free with a suggested donation of $2 per adult. The staff was friendly and greeted us at the door. It took about 2 hours to explore the museum and was a great way to spend a couple of hours.
a bit about the history of Door County as well as our own history. Different sections include the wildlife of the area, the history of the towns and how it's people lived, as well as general historical information. Very nice place - recommend highly.
