It's a simple place, without a lot of amazing topology, but far enough away from things to hear a train whistle blowing a long ways away. The Pinewoods campground has individual and group campsites an hour from Milwaukee (2 from Chicago). The group sites are on a loop away from things, which gives kids a chance to ride their bikes without much traffic. There are several fields mowed to provide a place for frisbee tossing or football, etc. In the evenings from mid-July on through August, those same fields become an amazing fire-fly gathering, truly creating childhood memories. An Ice-Age trail runs through the group site area, providing access to the morraine proper, and great trails for hiking, running, and x-country skiing.About 25 minutes South from there, very close to LaGrange, WI is an amazing set of trails (for hiking, mountain-biking, and x-country skiing). Awesome single-track mountain biking! There is a store in LaGrange with excellent equipment for rental.The last 30 minutes is through rural farm-land, with lots of opportunities for buying pumpkins, or visiting apple orchards. Great for the ride home.
