One of Milwaukee Counties nicest parks. You can drive through any time of the day and see deer eating. Also have see fox and lots of geese. In the spring you can sit and watch the baby geese and their parents walking around through the whole park area
Golf, a nature center, gardens, and cross country skiing in the winter. So many things one can do at Whitnall Park. Walking, running and biking are also a favorite activity. A calm atmosphere with frequent views of wildlife.
Whitnall Park is such a landmark area. So much beauty and wildlife. The park offers skiing, gardens, golf, sledding, hiking, archery too. Well taken care of gardens.
The pro shop guys really should have stepped up here. We were a foursome with carts and granted while reduced rates, they never told us their greens were an aerated mess and they still refused a stupid, token $5 coupon for each player as it wasn't after 2pm yet. Really? What a waste of time but we tried to make the best of it and will probably never return just because of the poor attitude and service of the guys working the "pro" shop.
I enjoy wandering around this Park taking pictures of flowers in season (peonies are great right now, tulips were awesome (see pics). Fun to see wedding parties on Saturdays too. I was recently there with a friend and her 2 year old. We went wherever the child led us… on the wooden bog walk, into the roses, down the hill, stopping by the "big bug" and by all the water features too. There are indoor restrooms by the gift shop.
Has some great, well kept hiking trails. Trails on the North side prairie are fairly dry in spite of the spring rains. Wooded trails closer to the lake can be muddy in spring but are beautiful. Park has a large playground and picnic areas as well. Great Nature Center that has monthly programs and activities (Wher Nature Center).
I am a catch and release type fisherman. I go fishing purely for the sake of it. I love fishing. now I checked with Wisconsin DNR and found out that I was able to fish there. after an hour drive there and paid for parking(which at this point I feel as though they essentially stole from me), I cast my line for no more then 5 minutes and I was yelled at by someone who I believe that works there and was kicked out. that will be my first and last visit there. I don't plan on going there or recommending it anyone. because our first impression went soo well. and as for the money(as far as I am concerned) they can keep it to keep the park running for those who are able to enjoy it.
We've come here before for dog sledding, and sledding in winter. Park at the larger lot near the clubhouse/warming house at the golf course. The summer is great at the playground and for a picnic. I love seeing the waterfall after a good rain because then it pours over the rocks and is very scenic. To find the falls, there are 2 parking lots near the golf course. Park at the smaller lot where you can see a view of the lake. Walk down the hill and you'll be right in front of the falls. There are some benches too. In Fall you can see hundreds of geese flocking to the lake/pond and the fall colors are very pretty. Just a nice place to come when you need a nature fix.
Love the fact that this park is free to all. You can pay for other things like golf and tobaggoning but I love to just grab the dog and follow trails through the woods. I have loved this place since I was little. The playground has been updated in area 5 so little ones can enjoy. Try it out. This was my choice for a birthday jaunt followed by Kopps custard!
Paid $49 for golf with cart. WOW.. Lots of other golf in area much better for cheaper if you play at the right time.
Decided to head over for an early morning run and was promptly told not allowed to run on the trails, it might scare the birds, really? People hiking and kids won't?
We just took a drive through the park and the color was outstanding. We love to leisurely drive through and just enjoy the park but the color this year was spectacular. Our God sure can paint well. We love to enjoy parks in general and to have such a lovely park in the middle of a city is so great. When you can just enjoy God's handy work so easily and such a relaxing drive through the park.
This is a gem of a park. I love everything about it. Great place for a walk, to take the kids for playground experience, to view seasonal plantings at the Gardens, or just to sit and contemplate.
We paid $3 to park at the Nature Center and we able to walk some scenic trails. It was a nice change of pace from the city. The rest of the park is huge and worth a visit.
Best park in Milwaukee, has lots of room, Botanical Gardens are beautiful, golfing, and great for outings with the family
