The Dino museum in Kenosha is small, free, but worth a visit. The exhibit was expertly displayed in one exhibit hall and you can see the whole thing in five to ten minutes.
This place rates a minimum of 3 stars for the price / free!. Add another one for the kid's activity room downstairs and another for the nice assortment of bones and you're there. If you're a history geek, they have some super local history stories on the wall. The gift shop had enough assorted doo-dads for the cheap at heart and enough educational stuff and books to please almost anyone. recommended
Awesome displays - an amazing collection in a deceptively small building. Lab in the lower level so you can watch curating (call ahead to see when). Definitely not your dry-and-dusty dinosaur exhibit!
Very nice layout and artful, realistic displays. The kids love it. The second floor balcony will stop your heart as the little ones run to the edge.
Free is always good, so the price here was right. The single room is pretty cool, but there is not much to extend the visit. We participated in the children's activity where they were able to uncover fossils. That extended the trip to 35 mins.
a fast run through a one-room display...almost crazy!!! think of all the dino's that are actually there and then it hits you!!! gift shop with related dino stuff:.) also a sand box in the basement and research facility.
Small but free. My youngest son who's 3 loved it, the older 5 kids in our group weren't impressed. Nice quick stop if you need to fill 15-30 minutes of time.
Outside of building is impressive. Lots of great old architecture. Entrance area has a small gift shop, some dinosaur bones for viewing. Main area is limited to one room with several dinosaurs on display (a few interactive display boards with dinosaur sound effects) On the lower level (when open) provides an area to view workers digging through fossil materials. There is also an area for young children to color. No entrance fee, but donations are accepted. Quick visit if you're looking to provide young children with a sample of how dinosaur mounts look.
The museum was nice, but small. A good day trip from Chicago, but not a place to set for a destination.
First trip here. The lower level was closed due to some repairs & painting, so we could only see the main floor. A large tour group of kids came in before & after us, which would had made for cramped conditions in this small building, but we lucked out. You can't beat free
What kid doesn't love dinosaurs? Adults will enjoy this place, too. While not large, the main gallery is very well done and makes these ancient creatures come to life.
It is a beat place to take your kids to see dino fossils a bit small, but the kids loved it so thats a plus... and FREE.
If you are in the area, it is worth a short stop for the visuals and the dioramas. The museum is free entrance, and you should plan about 30/60 minutes. The kids would be thrilled.
Dinosaur Discovery Museum is in downtown Kenosha, but is a little harder to find than the Public Museum. There is free street parking. The museum is small, but the dinosaur exhibits are informative.
PROS: free; ample parking; main parking is in the back of the museum while you can park in front for 2 hours (which is more than ample time); a relaxing 45 minute stop or even shorter if you don’t have kids and don’t read all the information .small viewing area in the basement where you can see archaeologists working on fossils; great photo op by the raptor in front; while it is a basically 1 room museum, what adults and kids will get out of it is the relative sizes of the different popular dinosaurs side by side with each other; You can compare the size of the T-rex with the Suchomimus, Allosaurus, Torosaurus, a big meat eater related to the Spinosaurus etc…; best gift shop of the local museums; CONS: all the dinos in the exhibit are replicas but it is still awe-inspiring to see.
