It's not the biggest museum in the world but there is almost always something to see that makes a visit there worthwhile. Today (3.14.15), it was the Kenosha Quilters Guild Show. The staff and volunteers are friendly and helpful. It's worth checking out multiple times.
This is a great museum. It offers intricate dioramas detailing the history of the area. There are even interactive areas with Trivia and/or live people. There are quite a few sitting areas and the second floor offers an excellent view of lake Michigan. Also on second floor are more exhibits of art. To top it all off, it's free.
If you would like to get out of the house, have fun, learn, and explore with your children, this is the place. Every summer, for 8 years I have taken the kids there to explore and encourage learning. They have an AWESOME crafty hands-on learning room for the kids to just color and play. Great views of Lake Michigan. Great, great place. You can see the whole place in a half day which is perfect for the attention span of children! Try the trolly for 10 cents, yup, 10 cents! You have got to go!
It's a nice museum with several exhibits, but it's not huge. The dinosaur exhibit takes 10 minutes to walk through, approximately. There is a gallery upstairs which they change from time to time. What I love about it, though, is that they have a children's area where the kids can learn, discover, play, create, etc. My 2year old loves visiting there. It's a nice place to visit and something to do especially during the brutal winter months when you have to be inside.
The public museum is next door to the Civil War Museum so it was easy to get to. It covers the natural history of Wisconsin mainly with other small exhibits upstairs. The Mastdadon skeleton was the best part as it was so big hard to imagine these ancestors of the elephant were all over at one time. It's free and worth a stop if you are in the area!!
The history of South Eastern Wisconsin is easily learned from this wonderful exhibit. The museum is "Free" but they accept donations just inside the door. There is a good size gift shop on the main floor as well. The Mammoths were my favorite. Upstairs there was an exhibit featuring works from an artist at National Geographic and the views of the lake from upstairs were great. A good, free place to learn something and stretch when traveling through Kenosha.
The price was right and the assorted attractions kept both adults and toddlers interested. I wish more locals from across the border in Illinois knew about this place. It's a cool trip close to home. recommended
Excellent FREE museum. Very high-quality exhibits. The mammoth section is excellent and interesting, and the Native American section focuses on Wisconsin tribes and history and is really well done. There were two art exhibits upstairs that my whole family enjoyed because both showed the process of the artists' development of work; in fact, there is an artist at work corner at the museum. There was not an artist there the day we visited, but what a great way for artists to set-up shop for a day and for people to view and ask questions of them--we would go back!
Director Dan Joyce and his staff have made what was once a dry and stagnate museum into a showcase that draws people from all over that come here to visit. There are travelling exhibits, a hands-on children's area, gift shop and don't miss the mineral display - ask any of the docents for assistance. There is an elevator for those that don't care to climb the beautiful long stairway to the upper level and a window into the lab where you can watch people doing research or prep work.Great Job!
Great 'little' museum. My granddaughter loved the dinosaur skeleton. Had a great time. Nice little gift shop also.
This is a great way to spend some quality time with family. There is a lot of interesting things at the museum for all ages.
This is great for children, plus it's free admission! It's got a lot of awesome information and interactive exhibits! It's a must see
This museum has an annual transparent watercolor show every year, usually running in the summer. We attend every year around the 4th of July. It is awesome and the works represented are exceptional. Usually, there is something else to see on top of this show so it is a worthwhile experience. Drop a donation into the box and explore. Then, take a stroll along the breakwater and feel the cool Lake Michigan breeze.
beautiful building!!! take a look out to kenosha harbor on the 2nd floor. two rotating displays change, check schedules...
This free admission public museum is very well kept. A good size to learn the history of Kenosha, life of mammoth million years ago, the Native American, and see some arts. Would love to visit again. Must stop if you visit Kenosha, a gem of their downtown
