Visited this Brewery yesterday and was very happy I did. It's situated in an old footwear factory, and a little off the beaten trail. They have all different kinds of beers for all different beer tastes, My favorite was the IPA and the Java Stout. If you're not sure what you want, for $7 you can get a flight, and try them all. If you're a beer geek like me, this is a must see spot!
I first went to the brewery because a friend was playing live music there. The atmosphere is definitely different, you can smell the brewers yeast in the air! Different than the downtown bar scene.
Note: Pearl Street Brewery is not on Pearl Street. Apparently, it got its start there, but now it's remotely located in what used to be the LaCrosse Footwear factory. But hey, type the address into your GPS and follow directions to the outskirts of town, because Pearl Street Brewery is a fun treasure to find.We stopped by around 4-5 pm on a Wednesday afternoon, so things were a bit quiet but very friendly and welcoming nonetheless. The beer is delicious: I had a Pearl Street Pale and my husband had the Rubber Mills Pils. Both were tasty. The place is unpretentious, characteristic, and has no clichés. I love that they're repurposing an old building. The brewing facilities are right behind the serving bar for all to see. There's also a fun little stage propped up with kegs for live music on weekends.Hanging around La Crosse for a bit? Really, you should stop on by. Fun place.
a good variety of beers to choose from the dark (java lava or organic stout) to the seasonal (appleweizen and lederhosen lager).we visited on a busy saturday and even though we were sitting at the bar the bartender would look right past us before we could purchase a refill. also suggest the bartender's eat their food (apple) out of the public view as we are waiting to be served.good location in a wharehouse building. pool and table tennis (ping-pong) are available for entertainment.
Be sure to try the miniature sampler available. The Pale Ale has a citrus flavor that I enjoyed in Europe but haven't found in another US beer. We brought home a 6 pack of Java Lava very dark with a wonderful coffee flavor. And if you love dark beer or even if you don't the Rolled Oat Stout is wonderful. El Hefe was a nice Hefeviesen (know I spelled this wrong) and the others while not my idea of something I'd like to drink had wonderful entertaining names. The offer tours of the facility and gift items. A nice place to stop and relax for a bit.
Interesting setup with the little bar looking at the tanks. You certainly know the beer was fresh. The IPA was very tasty and the staff knew what they were talking about. It was a bit of a pain to find at first, but not awful.
Interesting location with the bar overlooking the brewery. Very nice variety of beers available in bottles or growlers.
I wasn't sure I found the right place. They have the least pretentious of an exterior I have found craft brewing. Their Dankenstein IIPA was superb. The Smokin' Hemp Porter was also a very nice. The brewmaid was both knowledgeable and friendly. Well worth a visit.
