I was in the museum for the first time on the evening of 2/21/15. Dahl Auto Museum was hosting a fundraiser for the La Crosse County Historical Society, a 1950's themed event called "Remember When." Sam, the curator, was an awesome help and a terrific host.I never grew up all crazy for cars, but this vintage collection is magnificent; you don't have to be crazy about cars to be blown away. If you are a car nut, prepare to spend a couple of the best hours of your life. Spend some time with Sam, he loves to answer questions ... and you'll walk away all the richer for having had the experience. It's just way cool.
Was fun to pop in and check out all the cars there. Fun thing to do in the winter. Glad we got a chance to see the range in cars
We have been coming to La Crosse for many years, but only recently visited the Dahl Auto Museum. I would consider this museum to be a hidden gem. The cost of admission was minimal and the quality of cars was quite good. It is not an overly large collection, but what they have is well displayed and well maintained. We were also fortunate to have the curator give a brief presentation on a couple of the vehicles. We were quite impressed. If you have an interest in collectable cars, this would be a very worthwhile stop for you!
When you want to take a day trip in the winter and stay inside, go to Dahl Auto Museum where you can see a range of automobiles from 1915-1973, all beautifully restored, captioned, and spic and span. Sam, is there, as your receptionist, and will take your photo as you leave, as a memento. A nice outing, in between shopping and lunch. A small fee to get in, but will worth it, and open on Saturdays, too, from 10:00-4:00 p.m. An enjoyable day! Thank you, Sam!
Outstanding selection of a wide variety of cars. Well displayed. A bargain to visit. Not just Fords.
Stopped by the museum on 10/31. Not a very large place (about the size of an average auto showroom floor) but it was packed with an amazing assortment of cars. The quality of the cars was outstanding. Our tour guide that day, Sam, was very knowledgeable and full of interesting tidbits of car history. The fact that the Dahl company keeps this open to the public at such a reasonable fee ($4.00 for adults - $3.00 for seniors) says a lot about them. You could get through the attraction very quickly but if you take your time and really look around and read the descriptions about each car, you could spend more than an hour or so. Very worth the time and very enjoyable. Sam was also helpful in suggesting other things to do in town and places to eat. Highly recommend.
I was recently on a weekend trip to La Crosse and stopped at the Dahl Auto Museum. It far exceeded my expectations in the number and perfect condition of the cars, representing a big span of history. It is well worth the visit. As a plus, the staff is very friendly and can help with suggestions, directions, maps, etc. We were lucky it was our first stop as we made plans for the rest of our weekend while we were there. Great spot!
If you like classic cars in perfect condition, you will like this place. This museum also covers some local history as well as auto history. Our tour guide, Sam, did a great job and was a font of knowledge on what else to see and do in the area. The museum isn't huge so can be a quick stop, or a long stop if you want it to be. Very glad we stopped and highly recommend it to others
A Beautiful collection of fully restored classic autos, mostly Ford. See 100 years of automobile evolution in one place. The museum is not real large but the quality of the collection makes up for it. The staff is friendly, the cars are displayed so you can get right up close for a good look, and the admission price is only $4:00. Thanks to the Dahl company for making this fine collection available at such a reasonable price.
We were visiting La Crosse and was looking for something that pre teen and teen age boys would like to do on a steamy, rainy afternoon. I tentatively asked them if they would like to go see "Classic" cars and was overwhelmed with their enthusiasm. They enjoyed the Dahl Auto Museum and surprisingly, I did as well. When we got to the 1930's style car with the "suicide doors" our oldest exclaimed, "This is so O.G.!" (Original Gangster) according to him these doors made it easier to kick people out of the car after you shot them (not sure of how he knows this). When you come to visit plan on spending around an hour. It can be a lot of fun if you come with an open mind and are willing to be a bit playful such as playing Which car would you pick to take home and why? The above teen boy was torn between the 1930's gangster car or the 67 Mustang, That surprised me. Of course, he could not have the Mustang because his mom already called dibs on it. ( And that surprised him!)
Only $4 admission, and that goes to charity. Sam, the guide, was friendly, knowledgable, and even encouraged us to get in one of the cars so he could take pictures of us! So many neat old cars, with information about most of them. They have a much larger collection and rotate cars in and out. Amazing fact - all of the cars are kept in working order! Sam also helped us with a map to plan the rest of our visit, choose a restaurant to eat, and encouraged us to tell our friends with classic cars to plan a big trip down to La Crosse to visit! Thanks Sam!
Dahl Ford has been in business over 100 years and have saved cars, trucks, and vans from most if not all of those years. I believe they are only open Thursday through Saturday and if you're having your car serviced admission is free. They change the cars out every few weeks so I like to come back often.
This relatively new auto museum displays cars mostly in excellent unrestored condition with a few fully restored ones thrown in. The cars are all in running condition and able to be approached close-up. They provide interesting lectures on the cars telling the general and specific history of the car displayed. Cars from the early 1900's to the 60's are on display.
We visited the Dahl Museum on a rainy day.Since we were the only customers at thre time,we got a personal tour of part of the museum. It was excellent!.Anyone that enjoys old automobiles will enjoy themselves, though smaller children maybe bored-they did have a movie playing for them though!
lots of really nice cars and trucks trucks and even an Indian motercycle and more. The staff showed us and explained the cars and show room was so clean and cars and tucks were shiny and spotless and rare great place to go.
