Take a walk back in time at Pinecrest. Many original old buildings transported from around the area to here. Gives one a feel of living in the "olden days". There are weekends when there are some festivities going on as well. Demonstrations done by volunteers. Has a church where one can get married also. Great way to spend a family day.
A gem in the rough. A historical village dating from the 1850's with original building relocated to this site. Re enactments by local historical members add to the experience. During our visit we were treated to a Christmas coral concert by singers from Lincoln High School in Manitowoc. A wonderful experience.
Old time small wisconsin town with small buildingd where they explain what small town life was like in the 1800s. Interesting to visit but a lot of walking around. Kids seem to like for the first hour but soon get restless and bored.
I went to Pinecrest Village with a friend who had not been there before. We went on a Sunday morning in May. We had the whole place to ourselves that made it extra special. We were able to look at all the exhibits and take all the time we wanted doing it. We both enjoyed all of the buildings in the village. Everything is well presented. We will definitely return for another visit.
Pinecrest Historical Village has a great layout of buildings from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. They have a really nice audio tour for every building describing who lived or worked there and the history behind each building. Every building has actual displays of items from the time period, and Pinecrest is one of the few places where the exhibits are out in the open to touch and see without being behind glass or roped off access. We spent over an hour here enjoying each of the 25 buildings. Pinecrest is worth driving a few miles out of town to visit. To see their website check out the Manitowoc Historical Society. The fee at the time was only $7 for adults.
These twentyfive buildings are well presented, the new visitors center is handicapped accessible, most buildings aren't.
I may be a bit bias here, as I have done volunteer work at the village. I love the place. There are special events that are taken right out of the 19th century. I very nice way to spend an afternoon exploring old buildings, breathing fresh air, and learning some history. There are usually staff or volunteers about to inform and converse. If you are in the Manitowoc area, pay a visit to the Village. Especially if you are a history buff.
Laid out beautifully like a real town, lots of variety and detail, only $7 admission. They give you an audio device in which you press the number of the building and it gives you a brief character narrative of its history. I found the narratives enjoyable. We were the only customers on a Tuesday afternoon, had the whole town to ourselves! That was nice!Pine crest needs to put thselves out there more with better advertising, more helpful website and directions. They have a time capsule from 1986 to be opened in 2036. I'm interested to see what is in there, I will go to its opening, at which time I will be 56 yrs old. I dare say I enjoyed Pine crest more than Green Bay's Heritage hill
My Wife & I found this village great for our hobby of taking photowalks. We had a very relaxing and unhurried day strolling the grounds. We came away with some very nice shots and an education into the early days of Manitowoc history. We will return soon!
This village is incredibly well done. An easy stroll takes one from an early cabin through a complete village. Each building is very well curated - extremely enjoyable.
We arrived midday during the week and no other guests were there. The person taking care of the admissions couldn't get the crdeit card equipment to work, so we looked around and decided this place wasn't good enough to stick around.
There are about 25 buildings, most open. The path is gravel and you probably have a half mile in total. We liked the buildings and love the setting. They provide an audio tour if you want. I don't think it's ever that busy, which is nice. On this holiday weekend there was only one other couple there while we walked around. Some of the buildings are wheelchair friendly, but most have 1 to 3 steps.
This small historical village shows kids of all ages what life was like in eastern Wisconsin before most modern conveniences. It features several small historical buildings, as well as events every summer.
