I have been snowmobiling my entire life; I wanted to invite relatives on trip and we chose to rent snowmobiles from this location. They charge you $45 for "gas". Here are the two awful issues with this: 1) They charge this fee EVEN if you return the snowmobile completely full. 2) The snowmobile will hold $25 of gas maximum, so even if you return it completely empty they still make double the price off of you. They also have a statement that allows them to charge you if the oil is not filled up fully. These are the dirtiest, cheapest ways to make more money off of a paying customer. My recommendation to them is to just charge what you need to charge for the rental and don't try to use various hidden charges to make your money because all you do is turn customers away from ever renting from your business again.Another example of how their "petty" ways is that they refused to give us handwarmer packets (which they admitted they include) ONLY because we bought some handwarmer packets from them (because we wanted extras). This clearly made absolutely no sense, rather they figured we already bought them so they would be cheap and not give us the free handwarmers that they promised merely 5 minutes earlier.I'm not trying to bash a company here, but I do want to warn ANYONE else that I would not recommend renting from this company. There are plenty of other locations to rent from.
friends of ours rented there sled here, firs time here renting, the only gripe we had, was they wouldnt let my friend put the sled in his name or let him drive it without a drivers license, our friend is in his 50s, come on whats the big deal, his girlfriend had to drive and he wasnt too happy
I understand you want your fuel cost to be a wash, but the customer should not have to pay for fuel he or she is not using thats the way it should be so in reality what you should be doing is start off full and bring it back full, if it not full on return then charge them what it takes to make it full, its that simple, an then you will have the excuse of say thats to much hassel for you or something when your banking an extra 20$ on each sled. Most people probably come back with at least 1/4 or more a tank because no one wants to run out of fuel so Im sure your making extra money on every sled that is returned with extra fuel in it. I also think your making plenty on a sled in rental to begin with an MXZ carb 600 is 6k new your at almost 200$ an day do the math, and Fri should not be a weekend day last I remember Sat, Sun, was a weekend another unrealistic charge.
First of all the lady behind the counter said she had a broken toe not a broken foot, thats how well he listened,He came in saying he had a reservation for a boat on Trout lake which has to be one of the most dangerous lakes to navigate.I asked him if he had a structure map of that lake ,and his reply was he had been a boater all his life and knew it all.,thus no map needed.I told him to go down the road 2 blocks and purchase one with reluctance and a dumbfounded look on his face stormed out the door and came back with the lake map.I had told him I had someone who had rented a ski boat that same week every year and I called him and being the nice guy he was was going to meet him at the landing and take him to where he was staying and point out the dangerous rock bars and sandbars along the way,but no!!! my renter wanted no part of this.I guess I should have figured this out the way things were going.Well to make a long story short he brings the boat back with hardly a prop on it, and no skeg plate at all, now this probably happened the first day out so now the motor is overreving because it hardly has any ears on the prop! OH BUT HE KNOWS EVERYTHING. now I am supposed to run and find someone around in the middle of July to drop everything and weld a new skeg so I can have it ready for my next renter in less than two hours. What fantasy world does this person live in? Well needless to say I had to rent this boat without a skeg plate till the middle of August so whoever had prop damage would say they might not of had that much prop damage if it had a skeg plate on it which i had to agree with ,so thanks to the guy who didnt want to listen to anything we had to say!!!!! And welcome renters to our world. Owner Michael Carroll
I would not recommend to any more patrons the boat rental place Minocqua Sports Rental. When we arrived place was full of smoke and the woman behind the counter reeked of alcohol. She told us she had a broken foot although she was walking/limping around with no crutch etc. The man doing the rental would not give us the boat unless we went down the street and purchased a lake map for $10.95. A bit steep for a sheet of paper. When we brought the boat back we had smacked the prop. We take responsibility for that. We owned a boat previously and have had to repair our own prop. The man charged us $100 for a skag, $75 for the prop repair and $60 to transport the prop to Greers Marina, Manitowish Waters; although we offered to drop it off as we were going over there. I told him I would not do business with him anymore and he replied “your lucky I did not charge you $120 because I could.”Stay away from this place. We should have bolted when we walked through the doors.
We rented Polaris 600 Trail snowmobiles from Minocqua Sports Rental for 2 days in February. Their rates were reasonable (minus the "fuel charge"), considering they're located in a popular tourist area of Wisconsin. The staff were friendly and both sleds were in good working order. The shop was located right across from the trail, so getting to and from the shop was a breeze....The only real complaint we had was the increasingly popular practice of charging a "fuel charge", which amounted to about $50, in addition to the regular 2 day rental fee (you return the sled "empty", but that never happens, unless you don't mind the risk of running dry on the trail somewhere--thus the shop always comes out ahead on this deal).... I know gas prices are very high these days, but that's the new normal; and i realize that equipment rental places sometimes get burned by people not topping off their tanks...... But, as a customer who always tops off the gas tank before returning a rental vehicle, i feel like i'm being punished for the few who don't do the right thing. That said, if you rent for only 1 day, the overall rental is pricey when you factor in the fuel charge, but if you rent for multiple days, the cost is spread out, so it's not so bad. So, overall, i recommend Minocqua Sport Rental, but for multiple days---i just can't get over that fuel charge!
