My husband and I wandered the brewery and we're amazed at how clean and new everything was. We will definitely be back to enjoy the outside grounds if winter ever leaves. The staff was very helpful and informative.
Dave a lab guy at New Glarus Hard us our tour. He was in dept and extremely knowledgeable. He was full of smiles and laughs. Definitely worth all the money for the guided tour. Lovely staff everywhere! We plan to visit again!!!!!
The brewery is in a nice location, plenty of parking, just outside the small village of New Glarus. When we arrived, I was a little disappointed at the self-guided tour. It would have been nice to have a little more information as to what we were viewing. Additionally, the video had no audio or subtitles to guide us through the bottling process. There was a young man available to answer questions and not many people present so we were able to get questions answered. The gift shop had several options available in clothing, hats, mugs, glasses, etc. The beer tasting was quite nice. The tasting was reasonable and gave several options. You definitely will want to buy any beer that you like away from the brewery depot (as they state on their website). The beer on-site (other than the tasting) is quite expensive. All the staff was very helpful.
Fun place in a beautiful town. We sampled several beers, toured the brewery and walked the grounds, which were very nice. A great visit.
This is a great visit if you're into craft beer.......and we are!!!!! The staff, the beer, the self guided tour, all were great!! Don't miss this place if you are ever in southern Wisconsin.
Was in Wisconsin to visit a friend and this place was suggested as a fun place to visit. The brewery is in a nice picturesque spot and once you go go the steps you reach a nice little gift shop where you can start a midfield guided tour. ,$3.50 for a small glass and three samplers or a ,$6 pint glass. Whichever one you choose you keep the glass so a nice souvenir. You can also buy the beer in bottles there as well. Worth a visit!
You don't have to! Perhaps because it's so new, or perhaps it's those big beautiful copper cookers (if that's what they are) in the entrance that draws you - whatever. I really enjoyed the self guided tour. Love the miles of piping - and the bottling process! All of this alone is worth the trip - but TRY THE BEER! I bring my family and friends whenever they are in the area. They come from Texas, Oklahoma, Illinois, and a few from Wisconsin. They have always enjoyed the beauty of the landscaping, the ambiance of the country, and THE BEER. We have indulged in the beer tasting quite often, enjoying cheese and crackers (we brought our own fruit) outside in the fresh air, breathing in the peace of the moment. We always ended up in the store, loading up on the many beers available since this is ONLY IN WISCONSIN. P.S. I am a wine drinker by nature, but I really enjoyed the beer!
This is my second trip to New Glarus via a bus tour. The first time we were there, someone from inside came outside to chase our bus out of their parking lot. I had a bad taste in my mouth from this previous experience, but since it is a very beautiful establishment, I decided to give it another chance. I called ahead of time and asked them how I could get a bus there without upsetting the staff, as I had 30 people coming. That lady was very friendly on the phone. She stated we could park the bus at the red barn at the bottom of the hill. Thankful it was a semi decent day with no rain or snow. It was a bit chilly and a lot of the woman had heels on. So it was a work out. Once we got up to the actual parking lot, we noticed a sign that said "over sized vehicle parking." This was also next to a red barn. One of our guests ran down to the bottom of the hill and had the bus driver moved up to that space. BIG MISTAKE! While we were outside on the patio, Paul "manager of the gift shop" came out and told us he had the bus driver move back down to the bottom of the hill. That is where they park THEIR over sized vehicles for the brewery (which had zero vehicles in that area the whole time we were there. One of my guests called him a party pooper, so then Paul decided to state, "I could just kick you all out, for not obeying the rules" Of course that was a bitter pill to swallow with our group standing there and hearing this. I told Paul there was no need to get upset and sorry for the inconvenience. I wanted to squash any type of hashing out that may have come from his rudeness, as I did not want the group to have a bad start to our day!I then felt I wanted to talk to someone about Paul's comment before leaving. So, I asked the lady at the gift shop if there was someone higher up to speck to about Paul and she was very defensive of her little gift shop boss. Stating that didn't seem like something Paul would say or do I told her I had 15 people outside and they all heard it. I talked to her as calmly as I could, as she seemed to want to get me fired up with her snappy little remarks. I told her all he had to say was, "I don't make the rules, I just have to reinforce them." and she pretty much blamed me for not following instructs as stated from calling ahead of time and said if the owner was there, she would have just kicked us all out anyway. At that point I put my hands in the air told everyone we were done here!. Some people saw what was going on, dropped their merchandise and left with us. Your customers are what keeps the money flowing in your pocket. These people have gotten to big for their pants. They do not care if they have upset you, as they know 30 other people will walk through the door and love the place. I worked in retail for 7 years, and no matter how wrong the customer was in my eyes, I would tap dance around their feelings just to make sure they came back and had nothing but nice things to say about the place. As other reviews have stated, they DO NOT LIKE BUSES!! AND they don't care if they make what could have been the best day ever into a total crap show. Again, this was the second time they tried to chase our bus off their property. I will never ever EVER get back together with New Glarus Brewing company. As a matter of fact, I will do everything I can to make sure everyone hears this story. Maybe even put up a billboard. Suck it New Glarus brewing company! I will make sure to re route everyone to Monroe. Where the samples run free for an hour! I hope your yeast gets infected! *BOOM* Everyone that read this, thank you for your time!
I went to New Glarus for the weekend and spent a beautiful Saturday afternoon at the Brewery. How enchanting. Their outdoor tasting room is a delightful afternoon in Switerland, Austria orthe Black Forest of Germany. We enjoyed the scenery and beer. What a lovely way to pass thehours. Went with friends and met people from many different states, as you can only buy this beer in Wisconsin. A four seasons type of place. CHEERS!!!!
Stopped on way through WI and glad we did. Very educational tour. Sample house was reasonable. The view was awesome. Would like to go back when we have more time.
The drive up the winding road to the brewery is nice and the buildings and outside views are charming. However there didn't seem to be nearly enough staff on duty to accommodate the amount of customers. Granted, it was a Saturday, so they'll of course be busy, but the issues we noted included the15-20 minute wait to buy beer tickets, get a wrist band, and pay. Once you're done with that line you have to move to another line to wait another 15-20 minutes to get your beer. They had 2 stations that you could get in line at for beer. Each station only had ONE person working it. The bathroom (womens) had multiple units out of order so I had to wait 14 minutes . Once you finish your first beer you're back in the long line again for a refill. It just felt like it wasn't well organized and my husband and I felt like we spent more time standing and waiting in lines than we did actually getting to enjoy the beer.
If you love beer, you need to go to the New Glarus Brewery. The courtyard tasting area is one of the best places to drink great New Glarus brews. Located on a hilltop at the south end of New Glarus, it offers commanding views of the surrounding countryside. As we were there on a chilly fall day, the Staghorn Octoberfest beer did its best to help us warm up. And after you're done tasting upstairs, make sure to stop by the beer store downstairs to take home your favorite brews. Serious drinkers should be sure to arrive early as the lines for refills can get quite long in the warmer months.
This place was a delightful stop on our visit to Wisconsin last April. All the people at the brewery were very friendly and their beer is very tasty. And the setting is gorgeous as well - beautiful rural scenery. Well worth the short trip from Madison.
Come to sample the beer, take a leisurely stroll (while you sip) on a self-guided tour, and stock up on a nice assortment of brews. Every time we go, they're serving up something intriguing (this time it was Cran-bic--just in time for the holidays, though I doubt ours will last til then). Then wander the beautiful terrace with what looks to be sections of an old brick church assembled in pieces around the hillside, and enjoy the gorgeous view of the countryside and pretty New Glarus. Take your time getting back down the windy road to the highway, though!
I usually visit once a year. This place is just so awesome to see in person. So clean, so big, great beers. The beer garden is really cool. They built fake building ruins on the side of the hill next to the beer garden that you can go sit in and enjoy your beer. Staff are very friendly. Last 2 times I've been there, they have had brick oven pizzas for sale. You also get a free New Glarus tap beer in town after your visit, and visiting the town is a must as well.
