They have both hot and frozen pasties available. Personal favorites are the Southwest and Greek. There is a nice little deck or picnic style tables indoors for seating. There are steps to get inside. I love that they use local & organic ingredients. They close by 3:00 on Saturdays & are closed Sundays & Mondays so it is hard to get there if you are just in town for the weekend. They have "gently used" magazines that you can take along with a "Little Library" outside so that is pretty cool.
I've had pasties in the UP and I've had pasties in Cornwall, England, where they originated. Joe's Pasty Shop does a wonderful pasty and we love them. You can get them hot or frozen, and they're all delicious! Try the breakfast version--it's fantastic :)
Joe's Pasties of Rhinelander has the largest variety or pasties I have ever seen. Farmer's Market Vegetable, Greek, Rueben, Breakfast, Southwest Chicken, Pizza--I have eaten there many times and have never had a bad one. It is the perfect thing to pick up when I dont feel like cooking, we even took a couple of dozen to a family reunion and they were a hit. Of courst you can eat there as well. The owners Larry and jessica are committed to buying organic and local whenever they can and the quality of ingedients shows.
Walk into Joe's (Tues through Sat) and choose from traditional to way out pasties suited to every taste. Will admit I probably go more in the cooler weather but they're great anytime. be sure to get the extra gravy.
If you've never tried a UP pasty this is the place to do so. My favorite is the chicken cordon bleu. Homemade pastry is wonderful. They use all local ingredients which is wonderful. The atmosphere here is casual. You can sit out at a picnic table or take your pasty home.
Your Pasty is the best i ever tasted next to Joe's Pasty in Ironwood, and when my mouth waters for a taste of Home Made Pie, i welcome the flavor for my taste buds to savor a traditional pasty and will go through lengths to get it, even to a whine for one or two for the Mister here to get me one. i would recommend these pasties to everyone. Its a taste that stays within you forever and wanting more.
I grew up in Rhinelander and just returned from a visit to the Northwoods. Joel's Pasty Shop was on our places to see and eat! We came on Thursday and Larry and Jessica were happy to see us, and we were happy it was hot and ready day for the Bacon Cheeseburger Pasty! Our little one year old also enjoyed the food!...she likes Bacon just like her dad :). Having been a regular of the store sinc eits opening, I highly recommend a visit! We will be back ANYTIME that we are in the area!
There's a couple picnic tables indoors or outside to enjoy your flavor filled pasty of choice. Impressive to me was the quality of ingredients and I appreciated that it wasn't soupy or cassrole like inside it was a true fresh and delicious pasty. I'm a big pot pie fan so I enjoyed the chicken pot pie pasty.
Pasty's are the best! Friendly owners & great, affordable, hot & ready to eat Pasty's!!!! LOVE THEM!
I have eaten pasties from the North Wisconsin and U.P. area. I find these to be the best! Full of flavor from the crust to the fillings. Moist and tender, don't miss the opportunity to eat one of these delicious pasties.
This shop bakes sells fresh pasties -- stuffed pies that Cornish immigrant miners used to take to lunch. They have a lot of different fillings -- meat, veggie, egg -- with a delicious thin pie-like crust. We always gravitate toward the traditional Cornish stuffing. Sometimes we buy frozen breakfast pasties and have them on our last day in Rhinelader. If you really like them, you can have them shipped in the winter months. They are large -- one almost feeds two adults. There are enough filling choices to appeal to everyone including kids. The other fun thing about this restaurant is that they are committed to going green and have converted to the new 100% corn ice drink cups that are biodegradable. This is great regional food.
