I brought my niece here for the first time this summer and was blown away by the variety of animals and the atmosphere of this darling park. The park has everything from pony rides to exotic animals. The animals are very tame and sweet and not at all overwhelming for more "cautious" children. Actually, the goats are quite forward but are behind a fence so they aren't as scary for the kids. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy it on a beautiful day at one of the many picnic tables they have scattered around. I would wear tennis shoes and not sandals though, as the paths through the park are dirt. The thing I really appreciated about this park too, was that the staff truly seemed to care for the well being of the animals. I had to report some young boys to a staff member because they were cornering geese and harassing them. The staff member was horrified by the idea and immediately gathered another staff member and headed out to talk to the trouble making boys:)
Great for all ages,,easy to find and park,,tons of animals,,that you can feed!!! Clean park, great for large groups. You can picnic too!
Great place to take kids. Nice walk through grounds.Plenty of animals to see. Good gift shop. Bring camera!
If you want to time travel to your 1970's childhood, stop at Fawn Doe Rosa. Wander through the trails of woodland animals on display and marvel at how close the wild deer come to you as feed them by hand. June will be a bonanza of baby animals-a great time to visit. Fun photo opps abound!
We make an annual trip to Fawn Doe Rosa when we do our annual trip to see the fall leaves and we are never disappointed. The kids love it and seeing their joy makes it so much fun for the adults. Getting up close and personal with the deer is delightful and although the geese everywhere can be annoying, get over it because you are in their habitat! We enjoyed a picnic outside the park before we went in and it was a perfect place for a picnic lunch. It can get a little pricey for a large group but I feel like it is worth the money! We always buy the bags of food and it is so much fun to feed the animals as you wander through the park. Watch out though, some of the animals will just grab your whole bag and run! My grandsons did the pony ride this year and they loved it!
It was fun for our girls to feed the deer from their hand and to have them come right up to us as we walked. A bit old and in need of some updating- would be nice to have tours or someone explain some history and answer questions, etc.
Going to Fawn Doe Rosa is an experience for the whole family. We visited in July and were surprised by how many baby animals there were! I definitely recommend purchasing a few bags of food on your way in (we had 3 bags for 4 people) so that you can feed the animals. My daughters were delighted to have all the animals literally eating out of their hands, but especially liked feeding the deer and the baby farm animals. They also loved holding the bunnies and petting the deer napping in the grass. The highlight of the day was being in the right place at the right time- my 8 year old got to give a bottle to one of the fawns! In all, one of the best experiences of our vacation.
This is a fun family day trip. Admission can add up depending on the size of your family- but if you consider that you can spend the day here it's not that bad of a value. They stamp your hand so you can eat lunch at the picnic tables outside the facility or go out to lunch. The best value was the bags of food for the animals which is a must per person and a better value then putting coins in the pellet food dispensers. Each child needs their own bag which is a mix of different foods like carrots and pellet foods. We went in the spring and got to feed and pet the fawns. There were tons of other baby animals- goats, sheep, duck, and chickens as well. The kids loved it and it took a while to walk around the grounds- so save some food for the animals at the end too! I would advise not feeding the geese as they can be a bit annoying and will follow you. The deer are very friendly and will walk right up to you- but they also leave you alone if you keep you food bag closed- which is nice. Go early in the day to avoid field trips from daycare centers.
We used to go here as a kid and for the first time I brought my kids. It was even better than I remember! Loved the picnic tables and tons of shade!
We are so happy we made the trip to Fawn-Doe-Rosa. We drove 90-minutes each way and it was worth the trip. Our 6-year-old son loves animals, and was excited for this visit. He was able to feed deer (I'm pretty sure they were does and young bucks), goats, sheep, ponies, llamas, geese. He was able to pet does and fawns, a de-scented skunk (the handler happened to bring it out while we were visiting), and hold bunnies to his heart's content. We also saw the following animals (including several babies), most of which were enclosed (in decent, clean homes): a porcupine, ferrets, woodchuck, wolves, fox, mountain lion, elk, chickens, piglets, ducks, otter, chinchilla, donkeys, bucks with antlers (and as a bonus, hundreds of tiny frogs that happened to be between ponds, and beautiful blue dragonflies flittering about- lucky timing I suppose). The curious otter took a break from swimming to stare us, and he was so cute with his whiskers. We were discouraged from feeding fawns, as their main diet is mothers' milk, but we could pet some of them (they were wary yet). Some of the deer were a little bossy, looking for food, but they weren't aggressive. The animals seem to know what the little brown paper feed bags are all about, and will suddenly be your best friend! This trip was a great value. The size of the park was larger than we expected, but still very manageable. We spent 3.5 hours there but we could have covered it in under two. We enjoyed just taking our time together, and not rushing around. We went on a Friday afternoon. There were many people there but it did not feel crowded at all. The animals appear very well taken care of. Of course wherever there are animals, there's going to be some poop (don't wear your favorite shoes), but the park is as clean as can possibly be expected, and is well-maintained. There is a pond with a footbridge over it. We warned our son not to approach any ornery-looking geese (especially with babies), not to pet deer from behind, and to be sure and feed animals with a flat palm, for safety, but did not feel an immediate threat at any point. We are glad we took the walk around the knoll to the big pond, as we saw several tiny fawns which were hidden in the grass. There is a small additional charge to ride the ponies in a circle. There's a height maximum limit; the exact number of inches wasn't posted, but it looked about 48" to me (you could probably call and find out). An adult has to walk around with kids riding the ponies for extra safety. You can buy lunch-sack-sized bags of feed in the gift shop for $1.50 each. The restrooms are adequate. There are picnic tables outside of the gates, where you can take a break. You can easily find a place to wash your hands, in the bathrooms or at the outdoor washing station. There are also several places with hand sanitizer. There are informational signs posted in a few places in the park, with workers available for questions. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and seemed to enjoy their work. I read this park has been open since the 1960's, and can see why it's survived. There's no concession stand. There are a few things to eat available in the gift shop, such as bags of chips and candy. Don't bring food into the park, you'll have plenty of four-legged friends who want to help eat those goodies. The gift shop had other neat trinkets, toys, candles, shirts, jewelry, gifts. Prices in the gift shop weren't bad, as far as a gift shop goes. Parking is close and convenient. If you're visiting on a day with light, scattered rain sprinkles, that probably won't be a problem. But I don't think a visit in pouring rain would be the best idea. You may want to call ahead if in doubt. There are fast-food places nearby, but not within walking distance. The area around St. Croix Falls has lots of neat antique and specialty shops. Turtle Lake Casino isn't too far. Taylors Falls (MN) is nearby, with an Interstate Park. We saw a couple of mini-golf courses in the area as well. We will return to Fawn-Doe-Rosa. Visited June 2014{3}{3}{3}{3}{3}{3}Favorite{3}FavoriteSkypeMessenger
This place is awesome, deers are all over the place and you can feed them. If you are planning to feed them, I'm strongly suggesting you to enter the park as early as possible, all the visitors are feeding the animals, so they get full pretty quick. When I entered the park all the deers came to you want you to feed them, but after an hour or two, they start getting full and walk away from the visitor.
The friends we visited with were relatively local, so their teenagers had come previously. This was their choice to come again, but it was fun for us all. The animals all appeared to be well looked after, although the wolves were pacing a lot. You can feed the animals if you buy the bags of food in the shop. In addition to the animals there are quirky sculptures made from farm machinery. There are handwash points around the park. Everyone had a smile, so they must have been enjoying themselves. there is a shop by the entrance/exit with a wide range of souvenirs.
This place is a hit with any person I bring with me to visit. It's cool that you get to walk around by animals, feed them, see them roughhouse with each other. You get to see a bunch of random animals, raccoons, rabbits, goats, etc. I went a few weeks after a couple of the little babies were born and they are so cute. It costs I believe 8 dollars to get in, and you must buy a few bags of the food. My friend and I usually go through it twice each time we go visit. We always buy at least 5 bags of the food.
This place is so much better than the deer park in the dells. The deer are friendly and approachable, we even got to feed a fawn! There are lots of other animals too. Enjoyed feeding sheep, rabbits, chickens, pigs, goats, llamas, donkeys and horses! The place is nicely laid out and we will be back! Felt bad for the bear though, he looked miserable!
It was fun to visit with our 2 small grand kids. Though I do wish there were more places along the way to sit and rest. Also a shoe bath or scrubbie mat upon exiting would be nice. Will be back again, hopefully with another gr/coupon. There were 2-3 picnic tables on side of parking lot, but they were in use. Also there is a flea market next door!
