I have spent two days working community service there to help better the facility and would recommend a visit if you have never been. It is still expanding and the future looks bright for them.
It was a fun stop. Nice trails, pretty scenery, and the tree forts were cool. It will be great once it's finished... A good start for now!
We're sorry you had a less than pleasant experience at the Gardens last spring. Yes, the mosquitoes were awful. We don't spray and use chemicals sparingly, so the best advice is to bring your own insect repellant. And yes, fall is probably a better time. The colors this year have been spectacular. The Gardens are a work in progress. Our grand plan will take several years. At the moment, the only structure on the grounds is the Tree House, with our Kitchen Garden Pavllion in the works. We are not a park or a playground (Wausau is blessed with an abundance of these areas, by the way). Eventually, we will have a Childrens Garden and many educational and fun exhibits. But there are many things to do here. Refer to the "Top 10 Things to Do at the Gardens" on the "About" tab of our website, www.rwmonkgardens.org, and watch for events like our recent Autumn Fest and upcoming snowshoe nights in December, January and February. Families tell us these activities are great fun.
The Monk Gardens is a long-term project, and is only in the beginning stages at this point. Down the road--when the Gardens are fully developed and we have a visitors center and gift shop, et. al., we may have to charge admission as one way to generate revenue to support the oprations of the Gardens. For now, there is no admission fee. Thanks for visiting!
We're glad you enjoyed the Gardens and hope you stay tuned to our many public events. Thanks for visiting!
We agree with your assessment of the beauty of this special place. Thanks for stopping by!
Excellent paths for easy walking. Beautiful setting with the pond and bridges and tree house and gazebos and benches for resting. Favorite nature place in town.
I love this place. It's serenity within reach! A great place to take your family, have a picnic, walk, hold an event, go on a date, geocache... A must-see in Wausau, WI.
Beautiful natural gardens surrounding a large pond, great walking trails, would like to see more information available on the various trees and vegetation
We live near the gardens & walk through it quite often. My 9 yr old loves to run through it & play on the new tree houses. Every time we visit, there is something new. It is a quiet secluded area & has a nice walking trail. There is a pond w/ fountains, picnic areas & a porta potty (important for women & children ya know). They have planted a variety of trees & flowers. Like their Facebook page & learn about upcoming events.
Monk's Garden is developing botanical garden in Wausau WI. It is located in a beautyful setting on the north side of the city. It provides the opportunity to enjoy a natural environment that is being developed into a themed natural preserve. It has graded and / or mowed walking paths that due to their flatness are available to all and make for easy walking. It's not yet well known so it provides a quiet place to take a very pleasant stroll. Try it I am certain you will like it.
