bull's eye country club

I live in the Milwaukee area and have a lake home in the Waupaca so I golf all over Wisconsin. Central Wisconsin is such a great place to golf including SentryWorld in Stevens Point (opening in August after being redone), Green Lake with it's two Lawsonia Courses, Arrowhead Golf with the Lakes and Pines courses near Wisconsin Rapids and many more worthy courses in central Wisconsin. But there is one course most people are not aware of because it's a private country club...Bull's Eye Country Club in Wisconsin Rapids.I first learned about Bull's Eye years ago from an acquaintance while at a soccer tournament. We happen to have been discussing various golf courses around the state of Wisconsin and this person said to me "if you ever get to Wisconsin Rapids, you have to try to get on Bull's Eye Country Club." He said it was an old country club designed golf course with mature trees and narrow fairways.Well, about 5 years ago I finally got to play Bull's Eye. All of the things my acquaintance mentioned were true except the course is WAY BETTER THAN HE DESCRIBED!From my understanding the Wisconsin Rapids and surrounding area has really never recovered from the 2008-2009 financial collapse. I believe Bull's Eye has been hurt by reduced membership and maybe an older clientele dying off. Whatever the reasons, it's good for the public golfer because as of recently, they are opening up their beautiful golf course to the general public. I actually hesitated writing this review because I truly don't want too many people knowing they can play this little gem.The Course: Bull's Eye is a classic old style golf course with many traditional golf holes. It meanders through thick woodlands with rolling hills and numerous elevation changes. Bull's Eye sits along the Wisconsin River bank and from several holes you can see and hear the river especially on hole # 18. My sons and I have played most of the top golf courses in Wisconsin and I am not exaggerating when I say it's absolutely one of our favorite in all of Wisconsin. Out of many of the private courses in the state we have played, Bull's Eye is our favorite along with Pine Hills in Sheboygan. Bull's Eye is not a typical club as it is so unpretentious! You feel welcome and invited even as a non member. If you have the opportunity to play Bull's Eye Country Club, don't pass up the chance. Enjoy this little gem in central Wisconsin but DON'T spread the word as you'll know why after you play it.
