This is an interesting look at how life use to be on Lake Geneva. You take a boat to get to this property. Once there you have to climb many steps. However, the view from the house of the lake is beautiful. The tour guides give a very good description of what life would have been on the lake in years gone by. As a local it is a great attraction to share with out of town guests.
Black Point is a wonderful opportunity to step back in time and see life on Geneva Lake as it once was in all its grandeur. The home had remained in the same family since it was built in 1888 and was in use by the family until 2005. The home contains much of the original furniture, rugs, paintings etc. The only way to reach the home is by boat, check with Lake Geneva Cruise Line for times and cost of the round trip tour.
If you can make it up the over 100 stairs from the lake to the house, you will be in for a real treat. The house is wonderful and the grounds are beautiful.
This was an excellent experience. The guided boat tour of Geneva Lake provided insight to the history of the entire area. Black Pointe was a fascinating tour of an 1880 era home and the family that lived there thru the years. Loads of original artifacts. Knowledgeable docents provided intimate detail. Overall a tremendous experience I would highly recommend.
This is an interesting house and the person who conducted the tour was very knowledgeable and interesting. Most people come on the tour boat but you can arrive by car also.
The house is beautiful, docents so informative and the grounds and view of the lake awesome. The tour is well worth the price. The furnishings and detail to the integrity of the house and period are perfect.
Good thing I am in shape! 120 stairs. Someone should describe this when reserving tickets. Fantastic tour. Loved the docent. Boat tour out and back was great. Keep up the good work!
A historic site on Lake Geneva. The house was retored to the original which is over 50 years old.The only thing I disliked is that one has to take a boat then use their pier and walk up the embankment. It is a long climb
120 steps up, then 120 steps back down. That said, plenty of places to stop along the way. The original antiques are amazing, and docents very knowledgable. The boat tour there and back was narrated by our great Captain. In hindsight, I would have pre-ordered the sandwich or salad for the trip back. They offer youth and adult friendly beverages on board. What a wonderful way to spend a half day, and see all the mansions along the coastline.
We got the black point boating tour package which includes tour around the lake and will stop by this beautiful house. The tour guide will give you education about the history of the house and also building structures and materials. Very interesting and you should definitely visit !
Access is only from the lakeside dock. Many stairs to navigate to reach the house, but well worth it. The home hasn't been modernized and you can see how summers were enjoyed here a century ago. The boat trip to the house was pleasant.
This is a really interesting tour. Much of this huge " summer cottage " is original, built in the 1880s. Reached by one of the boat tours it is almost 2 hours at the house tour alone. Tour guides are museum volunteers that tell you a lot about this house and you get to go in many of the rooms and see what the REEEALLY rich people had for a summer house that they only stayed in about 3 months a year !!! Caution ! feels like about 2 million steps from the dock up to the house,LOL
The visit is a wonderful combination of a boat tour of the lakeside and a visit to this beautiful historic home. We bought lunch and ate it on the boat. Black Point is a beautiful house, and the docent was very knowledgeable and entertaining. The house has many original family furnishings, pictures, etc. This visit gave me a real feeling for what Lake Geneva was like in the 1890's.
This was a focal point of a previous visit to the lake. After a wonderful boat ride we arrived at a dock and way up high is this estate. An amazing sight and even better when you visit the house. THis was the summer playground of the rich and famous of Chicago and it shows.
What a beautiful old home! It starts with a boat ride where a guide explains all the rich history of Lake Geneva, Next come the steps to get up to the estate, so be prepared and in good shape because there are a lot! What you see when you get to the top after catching your breath is well worth it though. The beauty you see in the house is amazing, and to think when the family moved in back in the day there were no moving vans, everything was moved and brought into the house by hand.It is a beautiful estate and well worth the trip. It's a must see when visiting the area.
