There's a little known mansion on the grounds of the University that is just a must see attraction when everything is in bloom when we were there, Another is the State Capitol that is open to the public to view. One more thing while we were there they had what they call a street fair, they call it "Maxwell Street" which anyone from Chicago would know instantly. One more thing they have a quaint zoo that is opened fro free admission and when through you can just leave and walk out to the lake adjoining it. So there are quite a touristy things to do in Madison, Wisconsin
Having been through Madison driving cross country I didn't realize how nice the University is until we did this college visit! It's beautiful and the layout is so nice compared to many Universities we've been visiting. Madison is very nice.
Spacious and lively campus; very close to the state capital; restaurants, bars, shopping areas all around. Every time I visit the campus, I make sure to stop by at Daily Scoop either at Memorial Union or Union South to get a few scoops of their famous Babcock Dairy Ice Cream. It's by far the bets ice cream I ever had and if you're an ice cream lover; the ice cream itself would be worth the trip.
Awesome town. Just our first visit to the Graduate School side of Univsersity. Very hopeful all will work out. Seemed like a great school.
Bustling, beautiful campus surrounding the state capital. Amazing Autumn colors & scenery in September. Great shopping including boutique specialty stores. Whole Foods, high end restaurants and family eateries. Small town atmosphere close to Madison and the university. Great experience. I visit every year.
Fabulous grounds and views of Madison's lakes and the capitol building. Particularly beautiful in summer! Famous party atmosphere to boot. Soak it up and enjoy! Ohh, yeah..... you could also learn something here too if you're so inclined!!
The UW is the best! Academically it is tops. Everyone works really hard during the week, but when the weekend arrives...Let the fun begin! There is so much school spirit here that it stays with you through a lifetime. Like I said, a top notch university, giving you one of the best educations possible, and it sits on a large beautiful lake. Be sure to go sit on the patio at the union and enjoy a drink while your eyes drink in the beauty of Lake Mendota, especially on Game Day! You can rent boats of various types and/or walk the Lake Path to the quiet end of campus. (This will bring you close to Camp Randall if you are there for a game!)Even though it is not really not part of the campus, a stroll down State St is a must. If weather permits sit outside T one of several outside dining venues and enjoy a lunch or drink while you people watch. You won't be disappointed! Whether just visiting, going for a game or there to visit a student, you will fall in love with the school.Go Badgers
Visited the commons for a great view on a beautiful summer day. Plenty of seating (of course, since it's summer and most students are away).
Visited the UW campus at Madison; campus visit was enjoyable and also enjoyed the downtown area of Madison and all of it shopping and restaurant activities.
My husband had never been to Wisconsin so we headed north after my business in Rockford, IL, to Madison. It was a beautiful June early evening and we stopped to stretch and see the U of W campus. The campus is beautiful and sprawling. We ended up at the student union and found a wonderful summer evening concert underway. Nearly every one of the brightly painted tables and chairs were full, but there were plenty of places to sit and enjoy a great hour or two of music with sailboats, para-sailers, and kayakers on Lake Medota as a backdrop. We enjoyed fried cheese curds, sausages, and micro-brewed beers as we listened to the music and people-watched. The beautiful blue sky and breeze off the lake made the evening just about perfect. People were friendly, conversation easy, and the time flew by too quickly. This was my second visit to the union and there will, in the future, be a third! Each time has been truly enjoyable after a tour or walk around the lively, colorful campus.
The topography (rolling hills) and the location (along the shores of Lake Mendota) are idyllic, Add to that the traditional buildings and the modern architectural buildings and you have an incredible setting for a university. You can feel the energy on the campus where many events (planned and impromptu) are always happening. Simply a delight to visit any time of the year.
Madison is a classic college town, but with a mix of other culture and state politics added in. Lots of things to do in Madison, many of which (but not all) revolve around the University. The UW facilities are first-rate. Their "Engineering Complex" of several huge buildings dwarfs many other colleges and universities by itself. Camp Randall is totally cool. Sure, today it is the football home of Bucky Badger, but it was a Civil War camp and still has lots of history from those many years ago. I could write paragraph after paragraph about what a great place UW is, but you really just have to go and experience it. And no, I'm not an alum not an employee. It's an awesome university.
My son and I did a visit when he was accepted at UWM. We went up in February, and it was still delightful. The temp was about 11, but the campus was very vibrant. We loved the layout, the buildings, the atmosphere and the spirit. Everyone there was happy that there were or were going to be a Badger. The hotel on campus we stayed in was great, and the campus was very walkable. The city is located on a lake, and the campus located on another lake, which makes it very pleasant. Ultimately my son decided not to attend because he wanted to study foreign affairs and wanted a little more diversity. He ended up at GeorgeWashington in DC. I grew up in the midwest and have been to most of the big 10 schools and this one is the best.
Gotta love UW - Madison. It is huge and has tons of facilities, including a beautiful lake and old buildings. My daughter just enrolled and I appreciated the great reception and orientation activities for her move-in and early adaptation to college life.
