This is a beautiful place to go for a stroll any season, but is really special is Spring, Summer and Fall when the flowers are in bloom and this botanical garden really showcases itself. With some notable sculpture and the Thai Pavilion, however, it is a special destination anytime. Gives you the feeling of a secret garden i the middle of the city.
We love going to this place. There's plenty of space to walk around and the lawns and gardens are well kept. There are wide open spaces and little nooks and crannies to explore.
This is a garden lovers paradise. It has just about every kind of plant and flower you can think of. Plus all of the local birds and animals that hang around this beautiful facility are an added attraction to watch and observe.
We return regularly! The Bolz Conservatory is a frequent go-to destination in winter. It is a life saver and a reminder that things will green-up again. We learn something each time we come here. This time, we saw a display of quilts - titled "Black Threads" - made recently by local African American women who shared memories of their family histories.
No matter the season, there's always something blooming at Olbrich Gardens. If it's too cold for you outdoors, you'll be captivated at the ever-changing displays indoors. Your visit will be guided by professional hosts who guide you through the gardens or you can wander on your own. Blessed by acres of meticulously maintained grounds, one can spend hours finding treasures they overlooked the previous trip. The garden is well-suited to able bodied guests as well as those appreciating a ride through the trails. The indoor exhibits change frequently so plan to visit many times throughout the year. Your visit will be very affordable and, if you're not careful, you might learn something too. Olbrich gardens is a perfect getaway for singletons, couples, families or groups.
I visited their site on a bitterly cold Sat where the high temp was only 5 deg and the wind chill was in the minus teens all day. As I entered their parking lot from Atwood, I heard the front of my car slam into the apron. Once we got home I noticed a fairly large chip missing from my front bumper. So if you plan to visit Olbrich Botanical Gardens WATCH OUT FOR THEIR ENTRANCE! Otherwise you may damage your car.Otherwise we visited the Bolz Conservatory and it is a wonderful getaway on a very cold WI day. It's not very big so I don't think you could make a day or it. But you can spend a couple hours and thus worth the $2 to be in the tropics even for a brief period of time during WI's winter.
I love this place! I like to go several times a year and during the different seasons. It's very peaceful and relaxing to walk through and experience nature. It's a good place for everyone. To go by yourself or bring your family or friends with.
A superbly tended Garden. A dedicated volunteer staff presents many types of Gardens for an easy 45 minute stroll. Right across from Lake Monona and a Capital view. Go ahead, take a few moments to enjoy, you will be glad you did!
The gardens are, of course, exquisite in the summer and a wonderful place for events or simply a walk with family or a loved one, but one thing that is often overlooked is the interior, all season's tropical garden. I remember being a kid in the harsh winters of Madison and walking into the steamy sanctuary of the inner garden was like being on an alien planet. Definitely worth a visit!
Lovely place to spend time with the children, take a lunch break alone, go for a romantic walk, or just escape the freezing cold of a Wisconsin winter/
We love just strolling along the paths to see whatever is blooming when we are there. It is well groomed and beautiful.
For those of us who live in the area, this is a true gem. Season shows change but the conservatory is always a lush retreat. For those visiting, Olbrich is worth a visit especially when you can enjoy both the conservatory and the beautiful outdoor gardens.
This place is a marvel. Free admission to the grounds, the extensive gardens allow you to spend an hour walking the paths to an afternoon relaxing in the various sitting areas to watch the birds and the people, to actually stop and smell the roses in their vast rose gardens. I can't say I have a favorite spot, but on a warm summer's afternoon, to wander among the flowers and watch the bees at work, is my idea of an afternoon well sepnt.
This is a must see for garden lovers. Its right on the University campus. We had stumbled upon the gardens just by riding around the university campus and its something to see.
the Bolz Conservatory at Olbrich is the best place to go on cold day to feel warm again. in the summer, the best place to visit is the Thai Pavilion area --lush gardens and a beautiful gold roof that reflects the sun.
