The fort is a great reproduction of the original. Lots of interesting features. Guided walks give you information about the history of the fort & the area. The visitor center & shop in the adjacent barn also worth a visit
This local historical site is being run currently by a wonderful group of people who try to put on quality events & seem to really want the Fort to be a vibrant part of the community. Enjoyed recent Marketfaire. They had reenactors, vendors & demonstrations. They also partnered with nearby gun club & allowed visitors to shoot black powder rifles. Lots of info and fun.
We were the school group of the day. They had the childern say the pledge a alligance to the flag and raise it. Then they devided the students in small groups and took them around the Fort with many hands on activites.
I was a chaperone on my daughter's 4th grade field trip. It was a nice experience for the kids and well organized. The kids had groups and were rotated every 15 minutes so they were not bored. The staff was very interactive with the kids and answered all their questions. There was a nice area to eat lunch.
Connor was our guide, he gave us a wonderful presentation of the fort's past occupants and reason for being there. I was born in the area and have only been back on short visits until now. The history of the people who settled in the area was most interesting and the historical value of the fort was of special significance due to attacks on the settlers and farmers of the day. The facility is well kept and the guides are local students eager to familiarize you with the rich history of rural Pennsylvania. The gift shop was a really fun stop, any child would be delighted to find a keepsake from a visit to a real Fort... Some even made in the USA.
My family and I went to the Fort for our first visit. The people who run it and are involved in the tours really know their history. They are dressed and they make the tour interesting. It's very interactive. There is a trail to hike and the land is beautiful and I highly recommend visiting if you're in the area.
