Save your money. This park has gone downhill from its heydays back in the 40's into the 60's. It was a beautiful Park with magnificent trees and decent rides back in the day. Best thing about the Park is the Altoona Curve stadium in view and Galactic Ice Skating Rink adjacent. The light display during the Christmas season is its best attraction and worth a trip with children. Otherwise, go elsewhere for amusement park excitement.
Lakemont park is a nice family park. It just needs life brought back into it. You can spend a whole day there if you take kids. In the fall they sometimes have an event. The food they have during the fall is a big selection during events. There is a fee to enter the park and ride, Not all stands are open during the season which is a bummer. The park needs more shade in the hot summer time. My family loves to swim but the water park is not in good shape. We enjoy the rides but they seem short. one of our favorite holiday traditions is Lights on the Lake. Love to hear the Christmas music. Its great to go when it is snowing. Its funny to see how long the lines are to see the lights Santa is in the gift shop. Don't forget to see the train display . There is a fee to see the lights. Everybody enjoys it. This park is for everybody. Lets bring it back to life.
I like this park in the fall .They really make you feel welcome. In the fall they offer discounts for family's.Not sure what week but they offer flat rate for up to 7 people.Good food.
It's a yearly tradition to drive through the park's holiday lights. They have a fun game to play as you drive through and try to find certain characters. The lights are well done and very nice. Takes about 15 minutes to drive through, but there's a gift shop and train display at the end if you want to stop. It was $10 a car load when we went.
We were new to the area four years ago and were enticed by the beautiful display of holiday lights, as we could see them while traveling on I-99-N. We have experienced the lights many times since. We buy the unlimited pass so we can take it all in multiple times, and bring others along to enjoy it with us! Our children and grandchildren were able to see it this year. Children of all ages will be thrilled and full of wide-eyed wonder as they experience the beauty of Holiday Lights on the Lake! And don't forget to visit the gift shop where you'll find various holiday treasures, snacks, and an impressive model train display. Just a warning, the popularity of this entire attraction means you'll likely have a wait, but it's worth the wait!
Lakemont is a shell of what it used to be. The very few rides are old, and worn down... Go to Delgrosso's in Tipton instead of here.
Park has quite many small rides for children. Food vendors very good. Arcade well kept and clean. Staff very nice and helpful. They have a few "bigger" rides that adults can have fun on as well. Park looked very clean , restrooms clean. Think we only paid like 5 dollars a person to get in.
Let me start this off... This is a great park... However first thing you do head for the Skyliner... Which in my opinion (and my opinion is always right) the best coaster in the world... It has a lot of ejector air (airtime where you are lifted out your seat) great fun... On the total flipside their other woodie Leap the Dips is the oldest operating coaster in the world and lacks any airtime at all... Then they have this curious ride called the Skydiver... This is best described as the ferris wheel from hell! You are locked into a car with a steering wheel which you can use to flip the cars again fun! Lakemont is definitely worth a visit.Visited during summer break 2013
My husband and I took our son there this past week-end. It is an old park but still fun. It is very clean and the staff was friendly. Very family oriented. not a big place and older children(tweens and teen agers) probably would not enjoy it too much. Over all, just a nice place for a day of fun.
My husband and I visited this park with our almost 3 year old at the end of July. I thought that it might be crowded, being a $5 day, but it wasn't.There was no wait times on the kiddie rides. She could ride as many times as she liked.Husband took her on Leap the Dips and she enjoyed it, but he said he wished he wouldn't have taken her, as it was rickety and jerky. The kiddie water area was freezing cold. My child is a water lover, but didn't stay in very long.Be smart and pack your own food. We didn't and ended up paying $19 for 3 chicken tender, a pulled pork sandwich, hot dog and large fries that wasn't good. The have plenty of pavilions and picnic tables and it would be a ton cheaper. Not sure if we will go back. We might head up the road and check out Delgrossos.
On Wednesday through Friday, the park is only five bucks. What an incredible value for smaller children! I have taken kids from ages 1- 11 to the park and we all have a great time. The water park and slides are included in the price. Love it! This park does have some large rides but my bore teenagers or ultimate thrill seekers.
Nothing like an old wooden roller coaster and not one but two. Make sure you hold on during your ride on Skyliner....pretty wicked for such an old coaster!
WARNING-- The oldest roller coaster, LEAP the DIPS, built in 1909, is poorly maintained and VERY dangerous. I assumed rides must be safe but this is incorrect. Both my child and I got our backs hurt when flying at least 3-5" off the hard seat with no restraints and SLAMMING down at what looked like deep wells, over and over again. This is no smooth ride that takes swells nicely like a modern coaster. The tracks are rusted, the attendant had to PUSH our car by hand to get us going, and hit a long, wooden hand brake to stop us at the end. The wheels squeaked so much I'm thinking, "They can't even put a little WD-40 on that?" and the peeling wood creaked so much, it was scary. My 11 year old was crying from the back pain from the extreme crashing at the end. I took her to a bench and the worker that sold the tickets said she always has to send people to first aid after Leap the Dips. I can't believe it's legal in PA to have rides that could literally lose a baby with NO warning signs posted. My kid went to sleep with extensive back pain and bruised backside. I hope this isn't going to give us long term back problems.
What a very clean and beautiful park! The rides are older and there isn't a great variety, but in today's economy how can you afford to update and compete. You can tell the owners take care of what they have and that is something rare to find. It needs to be appreciated for what it is, which for younger children it is wonderful! We had a wonderful time with our family. The lines are short (or none) and the kids could hop back on to ride again if they wanted to. The flower beads were beautifully maintained and the park was free from trash. The food cost were reasonable and it was good. The staff were friendly and I loved watching them interact with each other. They appeared to be a true team and were super friendly to guests and to each other. They laughed with our kids and helped them on the different rides. None of them grumbled about our children wanting to ride repeatedly or rolled their eyes when our kids didn't want to get off. Dollar Days are super cheap. You can't even go to a fair for that price! The water was nice. The watersides were fun and the kid area was just the right size for young children. It was a great day, because it was developmentally appropriate for our young children. Give it a try for a simple day in a place where kids can be kids. It didn't have any of the stress we get from big parks. There wasn't a lot of waiting, walking or whining! Just fun in a clean place!
We had a family reunion here. The picnic area was fine but the rides are just in sad need of repair. I have major safety concerns with this park. There is mega rust on the rides at which I was very nervous with my kids riding. I let my 9 year old ride the go cart which caught on fire and started shooting flames out the back. Luckily she was coming around to the pit and they made her get off. Right there I should have put in some form of formal complaint to government authorities or whoever monitors park safety. The rollercoasters are old and rickety and the one you can see the track shifting like its going to sheer or break off! I had to put my foot down with the kids and said no more riding these old rusted up rides. I looked at the bolts and connections which are all rusted and weathered. I am so surprised that this park is not shut down for lack of maintenance!! The owners of this park should be concerned or ashamed that the park is in this condition. Should be completely shut down! Stay away!
