Lived in area for years and just found this place. Atmosphere is nice, low lighting, rustic. Food and service is very good. All the staff very friendly, they want you to have a good time. Good bar drinks, not watered down! Try the turnip curry soup!! Also, its cash only but they do have ATM in the restaurant!
Stopped by today for lunch with 4 adults, 2 younger kids and one teenager. Everyone was happy...how often do you find that? Amanda, our waitress, was excellent. Very beer-knowledgeable and she was frank and honest about the best foods and beers - steered us away form some stuff that was probably good and direted us towards things that were great. She was also great with our kids. The menu gave me some problems.....too many things on it looked very good! Burgers, wings and a nice assortment of upscale pub grub....really interesting selection of sandwiches, nice looking entrees.Burgers had by two of our party were given high marks (although one was a bit more towards "medium" than towards the requested "rare"). The wings are one of their flagship fares and we had 3 different types - the rasberry chipotle, straight on buffalo style and a made-to-our request lemon pepper variety. All were excellent (and large!). I truly like wings and have had them in many different places (inclduing in Buffalo) - the wings at the Congo can hold their own with any of 'em. The fries are hand cut, very fresh tasting and come in a wide variety. Now for the important stuff.......the beers. Great selection of very good micro & craft beers. About 12 or so on tap and a bunch in bottles. I had a very nice IPA from Carton brewing (NJ) and a great DIPA from Evil Twin (Denmark), my wife had a pumkin stout from Southern Tier (NY) and one of my untrainable buddies had a couple bottles of Coors Light. The bar is a bit small but cozy. The restaurant seating area was nice - casual and comfortable. The only constructive feedback i have is that they might want to brighten it up a bit inside - a bit dark. Porbably could stand a wee bit of refurbishment.Amanda was great however, we did have empty beer glasses for a few more minutes than desired when the place was mostly empty - although I would hire her in a heartbeat if I had a restaurant - great attitude, knowledge and genuinely cares that you enjoy your visit.Overall, a great place - yes its "out of the way" - but well worth it. Imagine a chauffered pub crawl from Spinnerstown Hotel to Union Jacks Congo to Limerick Craft Ale House and maybe finish up at Sly Fox brewery.
