I always think more should be done with this place, but it does cover the history of the Rev War as well as possible, I guess. Great place for kids who want to learn about the that war.

Had a great visit and learned something about the history of Bedford at the same time. I love Bedford and all of its history. This is another great stop in Bedford. Hope you enjoy

The Fort Bedford Museum is a great source of Bedford County History covering the last 250+ years. Unique original exhibits including the original British Garrison Flag from the Revolution! Highly Recommended!

That old guy Larry who once ran it as a volunteer really knew his history, all the "museum's" artifacts, many local tales & legends, what to do/see in the area & all that. The small bi-fold that allows one to see the main attractions was developed several years ago [Larry] and is a great help. My grandson liked that. Of course no heat in winter or cooling in summer. Especially handicapped Unfriendly, almost impossible for us w/ physical disabilities. Larry set up several very interesting exhibits which his successors seem not to understand or appreciate.

Very small museum with one gallery on the British origins if this pre-revolutionary fort. Other gallery focused more on local history. Park has picnic tables for a peaceful lunch with the ducks. Pitt street has many historical references. Fort ligonier does a much btr job explaining this war so use your time and funds wisely.

Three 1/2 stars. This is a small museum, but it does a nice job in explaining the French/Indian war and why Bedford is important. They show a 50 minute DVD that really puts everything in perspective; however, I could get this DVD from other sources. There's a great selection of arrowheads and other early frontier items; most interesting was the original Fort Bedford flag--in wonderful condition. I wish, however, more about the fort itself was addressed; most of this museum covers all periods of Bedford's history, but what was fort life really like? This was the unusual aspect that many museums don't address--do it here. Also, I wish more space/energy was placed on this time period, instead of the other time periods, as many museums routinely cover these eras. Outside the museum there's a nice walking trail, with very relaxing views. Overall: I wouldn't make a trip just to see this, but if you're in Bedford do stop. It's important to remember our heritage!

Great recreation of a French and Indian war fort. Many artifacts from central Pa.. A covered wagon, weapons, everyday items from long ago. Also an authentic British flag from the Bedford family in England. Well worth the visit.

This is a fairly typical reconstructed fort but not in its original location and acting more of a museum. The displays were okay but not extensive

I was visiting Bedford for the Fall Foliage Festival and stopped into the museum. The flag from the 1700s is the highlight. It looks to be beautifully preserved. There's stuff from before European settlers up through WWII. It's a nice small town museum. A word of caution though, the first room is very musty smelling.

Some great history of a little known war to most Americans, very nice displays and some very cool and unique, mostly local, items. Plus, some great books and a great PBS DVD in their book/gift shop! Also clean rest rooms! If you have any interest at all in the French Indian War you should spend an hour or two here!

This was a relatively quick way-stop on my trip from Gettysburg home to Michigan, and filled my goal of a relatively short yet historical visit. Was easy to access/find off the PA Turnpike, and just a block off Bedford's Main Street, which allows for easy food and shopping. As an American history buff I'm relatively knowledgeable about the 18th - 20th Century period covered by the museum's collection, but I still learned tidbits of interest. However, this is probably not a place that younger visitors will enjoy, as all exhibits are stagnant (i.e., not interactive or multimedia) with relatively minimal descriptions. It was also very hot on the day I visited, and there's no A.C. at least in the main building, which made it uncomfortable to linger, particularly on the balcony floor.

The Fort Bedford Museum provides an interesting hour or so of history. The museum is one of the increasingly rare old-fashioned ones with exhibits on a wide variety of subjects (in this case emphasizing the history of Bedford and the immediate area) and few bells and whistles. There are exhibits on the Fort (this building is not the original, nor in its original location) and its part in the French and Indian War (1750s). There are also exhibits about the settlement of this part of Pennsylvania and about Bedford itself. The staff person was pleasant and helpful. The gift shop is nice. We enjoyed our visit.

Not quite what I had pictured but worth the short walk from the main street to this recreation. On a nice day this is a good way to spend thirty minutes or so away from the coffee shops and quaint stores nearby.

This museum is small, but it has some really wonderful exhibits that everyone should see. The building itself is astheticly pleasing, and invites the visitor to come in and tour. This is a museum for all ages, one can not walk away from a tour without learning something about American Colonial history. The exhibits and curations rival any large museum, and are kept in excellent shape for the partons to see. If traveling through Bedford County, one should take the time to visit Fort Bedford Museum; You will not regret it.

It is small but also very interesting history from America's early days even before we became a nation. Staff is very helpful and you can spend a couple of hours here studying displays.
