Dutch Springs is extremely unorganized and needs to become efficient and effective with the reception area. There is no reason that this facility could not become streamlined if it trained its staff appropriately and utilized modern park technology. The restrooms on the weekend are atrocious! They should have an attendant available throughout the day to continuously clean up after the slobs at the park. There was toilet paper on the floor and urine on the seats....all day! If you have to go to Dutch Springs then go on a Wednesday when the silt has dissipated and returned to the quarries floor. The quarry is also over looked by garbage incinerator towers, which do not give you the feeling of swimming in a clean environment.
Dutch Springs is a great place to go if you have a big group of people. It's a lot of fun, and is an amazing workout. You will probably be sore for a few days. You do need some upper body strength to do most of the activities though, Overall, it's a really fun, family place!
I've been diving at dutch springs, for the last 6 years , the staff are always helpful and they're adding a new scuba attraction soon . Its an awesome place to train new divers and show them the different types of dives they can be certified for.
I had heard about this place for quite some time. The Northeast Working Equipment Group (NEDEG), which dives the old equipment meets there every Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. As I was up in that area during last Labor Day, I decided to attend. Of course I will try and focus more on the facility, than on the specific activities of this particular dive club group. The park is out in the middle of rural Pennsylvania, but is very well known all over. A lot of people get their various diving certifications there, and the local dive shops support that. The faculty is very nice with a deep quarry with lots of access. There are plane an automobiles in the water, but I never saw them. I dove there three days in a row. The staff are very nice and helpful. Better access to the water could be improved, especially when transporting huge amounts of bulky and heavy diving equipment. Parking could also be improved along with the area being paved, so that dust from cars going by will not get into the breathing air supplied by various compressors. And at a daily entry fee of $37.00 per day; a week pass might be a nice idea. I was glad to see recycling bins on the facility. All in all, it was a nice time. Two rabbit ears up!!(\ (\( -.-)o_(")(")
Unique place for people of all ages... many different things to do - we did spring lake and kayaking - all in all super fun day - you could spend the whole day easily so much to do. It's a little nutty with a lot of kids climbing all the floats in the water but there's a lot to choose from.
It's definitely not turquoise blue carib water, but if you need a diving fix and live within two hours of the NJ/PA border, this is your spot. Dutch Springs is a natural spring-filled quarry, complete with dropped-in chassis and vehicle bodies (including but not limited to a helicopter, a Hellcat fighter, school bus, and fire truck). There are a number of on-site resources from whom you can acquire supplies and services, but it might be easier to bring your own gear and leave the air to them. get there early, because the staging grounds surrounding the quarry congest quite quickly. Don't get m wrong, though -- the sights are limited to rock, mud, algae, and millions of zebra mussels. However, it is diving, which is awesome when you get to do it.
Being my first time at DS, I was looking forward to the hype of the great visibility compared to our local quarries. We arrived on Friday late afternoon and have to say the check in process was painful. The check procedures with their staff was confusing in my opinion a lot of unnecessary bureaucracy. The staff was very friendly and but I can get into cleared government facilities easier than this place!I was up there with my dive shop training a lot of students and it was crowded but a lot of fun. The line at check in was long and slow (knowing that from our check in) which delayed some of our students coming to our site on time but it is what it is! I was pleasantly surprised on the water temperature compared to our local quarries. They had a lot of large platforms for training at 25 ft and the vis was fairly good but in other parts of the quarry did not have much luck with the visibility. This place is very crowded on the weekends but everyone respects others space and really glad I went and want to return to also experience their water park in the summer time.Overall, a very good experience, recommend it to all but they need to streamline their check in process and maintain consistency between the staff on their procedures for leaving and returning to the site if you are/not camping there
Always the best place for teaching students, clean, clear water and safe place for learning the basics of SCUBA diving. A lot of attractions for students to see and to maintain interest.
The visibility at Dutch Springs can be very hit and miss, some trips have been great others not so much. Overall, there is generally not much to look at underwater, unless you like exploring sunken vehicles. Personally, I would like to see more fish. But this is definitely the best place to dive in Pennsylvania.
We went to Dutch Springs for mini vacation with some friends. My wife does not dive and for her to have something to do while I dove was a great addition. She absolutely loved it!There are many children that utilize the park, however it is also adult friendly and plenty of room for all. When my dives were finished for the day, I joined in for some fun. I highly recommend all the different slides and obstacles!
You have to know what you are visiting before set your expectations too high or even too low. The water park is a place within a controlled environment where scuba divers play. The park is intended so divers can bring non diver friends and family. I am personally a diver and love every minute I spend in the actual water park not diving. The water is very clean an clear. It's an experience that many people do not get in a lifetime. The water is cold but in August/begining oof September the water is at it's warmest and is very pleasurable on the surface. There are many floating things to do in the water park like jumping up and down on a big trampoline and jumping into the lake from it. There are things to climb and if you don't make it you fall into the beautiful lake. You have to swim to all the attractions and the water is very deep. Like 50 ft. deep. You are forced to wear a life jacket at all times and I don't blame them. If you don't want to wear a life jacket you could wear a wet suit. It's fun for everyone from a 2 yr. old to an 80 yr. old.
Took my kids last summer summer and they had a blast. They couldn't wait to go again this summer. We went last week and they all had a great time! If you don't arrive early, you will probably not get a lounge chair. I suggest bringing your own chairs and an umbrella as well. There is a grass area to put chairs on but it is quite hilly. Adults and children must wear life vests that are provided to you.
The water temp here is chilly, but moving around warms you right up. The park has done a nice job with sinking "wrecks" to enjoy while scuba diving. There are plenty of very large bass and other fish. There are some really cool elusive koi fish that if you spot consider yourself lucky. Renting paddleboats or kayaks are another fun way to enjoy the park then again the Aqua park is a lot of fun for all ages. I enjoy this location and would come again.
I went to Dutch Springs Park for the North East Diving Equipment Group, the staff at Dutch Springs told me where they were setting up the event, answered all the questions I had and was very welcoming. The Event (not related to the park) was great, if you ever wanted to try commercial diving gear from as old as a Mark V Diving Dress to modern scuba gear, this twice a year event held by the North East Diving Group is great.I will go back to Dutch Springs when I get a chance.
There's lots of sunken features in the quarry and they are at varying depths, so it suits all levels of divers. There are platforms to train on. My club usually does some exercises on the platform as refreshers for the newer divers. The water is COLD in May, especially without a warm spring proceeding it. Vis is very good.Staff is wonderful. They have tank filling on site..
