I read her books when I was young and admired her novels. The museum educated how remarkable she was. She dedicated herself to helping children of mixed American and Korean heritage. Mixed children are treated badly in Korea. Her foundation has helped many children. The house, grounds and museum is a worthy museum to visit. Don't forget to visit Doyedtown too. There is a great downtown with good restaurants and stores.
Pearl S. Buck brought this farm house and property to raise her family. The original part of the house dates to the 1820's. It was very interesting to observe how she modified and expanded the property to accommodate her family. My items in the house belonged to Pearl S Buck. Of special interest was the typewriter that she used while writing The Good Earth. While spacious, the atmosphere in the house is both comfortable and cozy.
I didn't realize what a great humanitarian Pearl Buck was until I took the tour. I enjoyed hearing about her life, her family, her books, and her travels. I could just imagine her taking care of her large adopted brood in this warm and welcoming home. She is an inspiration, and her life is a heartfelt tale. All the rooms were decorated in festive holiday decor, so that was an extra bonus. I only wish the guide would have told us more about Pearl's children, what became of them, and where are they now.
The home itself is nice to tour, but the story of Pearl S. Buck is very interesting. She has a collection of items from China that will blow your mind.
we found this only by Chance, as it was not mentioned in any guide book we had. So we were too late for a tour, which we would have like so much to do as Pearl S. Buck books accompanied our youth and we read them all.But we got the chance to walk the grounds by ourself and that was also very nice. We got some glimpses through the windows of her home and could so imagine how daily life would have been with her big family.
Went to an outdoor wedding here this past weekend. It was such a lovely place and truly leant to a beautiful day (perfect weather helped). Gorgeous place to host an event.
We are glad you liked your visit to the Pearl S. Buck House and are happy you share our enthusiasm for what a wonderful writer she was. We just wanted to clarify that Miss Buck was the first American woman to receive both the Pulitzer and Nobel prizes. Toni Morrison also holds that distinction as the second.
You will learn so much about Pearl Buck and her life in the midst of beautiful surroundings. Have been many times and will go again.
This was a nice refresher on her life and legacy while enjoying the beautiful grounds and gardens. Given that it was late in the growing season the volunteers need to be commented for the beauty, variety and shape of the flowers gardens. I enjoyed visiting with the friendly staff at the visitors center and the brief video. This is a nice tribute to Pearl Buck's life work and the legacy she left behind.
I recently visited the Pearl S. Buck house. The tour was very informative about PSB. However, our tour guide kept interjecting information about her own adopted children and how successful they are and how she personally met with PSB and her adopted children, and how they attend the PSB House functions. I can only give a 3 stars, due to the tour guide's self promotion. I really am interested in PSB, not the tour guide. Perhaps a different tour guide, even if he or she is less knowledgeable, can render a better tour. Still, it is a great place to visit for PSB fans.
CLose to our home in pa. we found another gem pointed out to us by our relatives from out of state. The Pearl S. Buck House is a definite must see attraction especially around the Christmas Holidays. It is both Historic and educational as well as a sight to behold. The house and surroundings are decorated inside and out and veryinteresting. They also have a small gift shop with items from other countries. We now make it a yearly event to visit this site due to its atmosphere. Enjoy.
Have visited the house and grounds several times with friends visiting from out of town and learn something new each time. Very well preserved and presented artifacts, with informative descriptions. Very helpful staff. Well maintained grounds. Go when the flowers are in bloom and allow a couple of hours.
Being in her house, walking on her grounds, seeing her gravesite on her property, listening to the docent telling of her accomplishments - all these things were magical! I read The Good Earth when I was a teen and again a few years ago - an amazing book by an amazing writer. Her good works, in addition to her writing, are inspiring. A great place to visit!
It's nice to have a great piece of American history in our own backyard. The Pearl S. Buck house is wonderfully preserved in a romantic setting.
Set on a back road. One of a kind home to a one of a kind author. The area has many artisans homes, museums, and attractions. Michener lived locally before Texas. Hammerstein, Stieglitz, and Georgia O'Keefe lived here.
