Wow the new upgrades to park are very nice. Enjoyed coming out this summer. Missed it while work was going on. Kids loved the sand and water. Thanks for new facilities.
We love Poe Valley, we enjoy it at least once a year, family, kids and grandkids go for a week usually around July 4th. Even with it being a holiday it just doesn't feel crowded. Love the beach area and the grandkids love the play area there. We go to Poe Paddy and walk across the trestle bridge, the tunnel is closed but you can hike over it. Beautiful scenery. Great memories.
Nice shaded day use picnic areas. A swimming beach with a concession stand at a trout stocked lake. It also has a recently renovated camping area. It is in a somewhat remote very scenic location. Great place for a day of fishing, swimming, a family picnic, camping or any combination thereof!
Had a great time! Enjoyed the cabin and beach the most. We brought our cavalier king Charles spaniel and 1 1/2 year old with us. More pictures here: http://pastate.blogspot.com/2013/06/poe-valley-state-park.html
It is clean has plenty of picnic spots, great swimming, not too deep for kids 9-12, clean bathrooms, showers for washing up. Beautiful setting.
It is a Civilian Conservation Corps site that is off the beaten path, but still accessible to so many attractions.
Couple of nice hiking trails and a nice lake with a beach area. Smaal area but very nice. Rangers were very helpful.
Great spot to camp, especially off season when you can at times have the whole place to yourself. Good fishing in nearby Penn's Creek at certain times of the year, good hiking trails located nearby.
My girlfriend and I went to Poe valley for the first time and it was a perfect autumn day. So peaceful and serene. The colors were magnificient and the people were so friendly. One of the reasons we went is because someone I know made a big deal out of going because he thought it was "Edgar Allen Poe" -related. He was wrong, but you can find that out from the park ranger who was more than happy to share his knowledge of the park.
Hiking paths, beach and picnicking grounds with campsites just a short walk away. Used to go there for family vacations when I was a child. Other than added electrical hook-ups in the campground area, has not really changed much. A forested place to get away and enjoy peaceful mountain scenery.
We were actually renting a house past Poe Paddy Park, and found this gem our last few days on vacation. The park is pretty remote, but really beautiful. We visited the beach and picnic areas, and they are wonderful. The kids had a blast. The beach is a sand beach with the sand continuing into the roped off swimming area of the lake. The water is pretty shallow, perfect for young children. They have a very nice concession stand, that also rents canoes, kayaks and paddle boats by the hour. They do have additional small grocery items in case you forgot something. Believe me it is a long way out to the store. There is also a nice play area for the kids. The bathrooms and showers are very new and clean. The picnic areas are shaded and plentiful. Would love to go back and would recommend it highly. They don't charge for day use, which suprised me.
We stayed here for the first time the last weekend of June 2012 in one of the camping cottages. It has almost everything we - a lake with a swimming beach, beautiful scenery, a remote location (with no cell phone coverage). It's a bit of an adventure as there are no paved roads leading into the park. We made the mistake of traveling to the park via the road that runs through nearby Poe Paddy state park - that road was a little more "adventurous" than we had expected. While staying here, we took a trip to Penn's Cavern which is one of the few caves that is toured completely by boat. It was a nice cool trip on a hot day that the whole family enjoyed.
My family lives near Poe Valley, and we have a sort of tradition of going yearly with our family. It's always fun, and there is so much space that even if there are other families there you will feel alone with just yours. Poe Valley is a great place to spend a day with family or friends..
