We went on a hike during the summer. Great scenic views with free parking, clean rest rooms, picnic tables. We even enjoyed the wild berries along the trails(sorry bears)!!
Beautiful Mountain Hike, close to I80. Big Pocono State Park offers, free parking, free hiking, picnic tables, and beautiful views. One side of the of the Park views the Water Gap, the other side, New York state, and the valley bellow (Poconos). There are many trails, well marked, the trails go around the Mountain, near the ski lift, and down at the bottom the water park. The last trip to the Poconos was with my sister 05/2014, and we made it a point to go to this park several times...Bring water, snacks, back pack, sun block, and extra sweat shirt/jacket...even in May it can get a bit chilly. I find that in Early Spring, going after 11:00 AM is best, it will be warmer, and pick a day that is mostly sunny...if possible. BRING YOUR CAMERA...
Went on a hike here and had a lot of fun. Great trails and amazing views. Looking forward to going back!
We did a hike on the park and the views were phenomenal. Even though the trails are long and maybe lonely, the views were worth it. The trails are well identified. We even saw deer all along the way.
Just moved in down the road and wanted a place to take the dogs hiking/walking...this was a great choice. Several trails here from 1-3mi moderate terrain with great views. Dogs loved all the new smells.
The views from the top of this mountain are breathtaking! There are picnic tables and charcoal grills for BBQ'ing. It's so serene and quiet, I can only imagine the views in Autum. Worth the ride to the top :)
If you are looking for the best view in the Poconos, go to Big Pocono State Park. At the very top, the view is amazing and breath taking. They also have some intermediate trails for hiking.
The views are majestic but there are no maps of where to walk. There lacked a guide house or ranger to ask questions. There were no maps to take either. Finally, there are warning about rattlesnakes suggesting if you plan on going off the trail to wear boots and pants. We did not see any but they indicated they were in abundance.
The park has the most amazing views. We went on a hike but found the trails were very poorly marked which was a shame. We had to use a telephone to get the GPS to help us. I really think it is easy enough to do some signs as to where we could go. It really isn't that hard to do. The hike was good fun but quite stony so can be difficult for some people.
I rode my bike up here and was well rewarded with the panoramic view. The rim road... a mile loop at the top is drive-able, walk-able and features lots of great viewing spots. The only draw-back is that the only way to get here is via Camelback Rd, past Camelback's splash mountain. The vehicle traffic was backed up for 'bout 1/2 a mile or so waiting to get into the park. As a cyclist, I was able to get around all that. But, If I was driving my car to the top... I don't think I'd be happy.
Great trails, great place to spend a relaxing day at the top! Drive to the top and take a short walk, a long walk, or non at all & just take in the scenery. It gets a little windy & chilly so have a jacket or blanket on hand just in case. Take a book & relax or a leisurely walk, or a hike ! There is something for everyone!
This state park offers magnificent view from the top. Great place for picnicking. We visited this park in May and it was little cold in the evening at top of the mountain so could not stay there for long.
Drive to the top of this mountain and be amazed by the view. We went on Mother's Day and saw several people picnicking and walking the trails. Great place to relax, do light hiking, or just sit quietly and unwind. Visit the mountain and take the stress out of shopping the nearby outlets.
We didn't spend as much time here as it probably deserved. It's located on the top of a mountain and the views are amazing. Very beautiful park and it was free.
It's worth the drive to the top for the magnificent view! There isn't much to do up there, but the overall view is worth every penny! (Especially since it's free!) Great area for a family picnic or just a side trip before or after shopping. One of my favorite places any time of the year, but in the Autumn it will take your breath away!
